Easter's been bitten Empty Easter's been bitten

Post by Vince the bunny Thu Feb 16, 2012 5:20 pm

Just went outside to check if Pip had eaten his pellets and I noticed part of a white cottontail on the floor Shocked I checked the rex girls and Easter has been bitten on her genitals and a chunk of fur has come off. There is a flesh wound, but not as bad as Hazel's was when she was attcked in her previous life, so I don't feel it needs vet treatment. But, my poor Easter Crying or Very sad

I suspect Boo has done it, Easter keeps on humping him and he hates it and grunts at her but she keeps on at him. He may have retaliated and bit her. It could have been Hermione but the two sisters are so close and are always sat with each other.

I now realsie that Easter is the one I love the most of the 3 and I'm rreally worried for her. DH said 'you'll have to get rid of one' but I can't do that and if I did it certainly wouldn't be Easter. I don't know what to do. I'm really worried this could be the start of something bad. It could have be
en just Boo getting pee'd off but what if it happens again?

The girls aren't spayed yet and are are approx 5 months old? Not exact;ly sure of their age. Would neutering stop all the humping? Easter is at the bottom of the pecking order, maybe she is tryong to rise through the ranks or is it 'that time of year'?

Please help, DH desn't get it as to why I am in a flap.

getting them spayed should help, before i got mine done, they would try and hump each other all the time and they were starting to fight, once they got done,it all stopped, snowflake has started trying to hump poor spike but i think its becouse it is that time of year,so maybe she is having double the trouble with hormones and with it been that time of year

I agree, spaying would certainly calm her down and it is getting to the time of year when they are going to be most hormonal Rolling Eyes

I know you have been saving to have them done but is it worth approaching your vet about a payment plan, or looking at a 0% credit card, so you could get them done sooner?

I agree they need doing asap. I sold some stuff recently but had to spend that on a taller pen as Boo was jumping over the othger one and he's not the easiest rabbit to catch No

I've had some interest in the originals of some artwork I've done recently, I didn't want to sell them but my rabbits are very important to me so I have decided to sell them to fund the spays. Can't get credit, long story Embarassed

I agree - spaying has a good chance of stopping the behaviour.

well, I have sold 2 of my original hare portraits just now so tomorrow I am booking them in for their spays.
I hope nothing else bad happens. DH is complaning about the half cottontail I left on his computer desk, chucking it out seems wrong as it belongs to Easter, but I don't suppose she wants it back pale

That sounds very appropriate that your hare artwork helps your buns.

I think that getting the girls neutered will help to calm them down. It is coming up to Spring, so I suppose they are just getting vibes.

Poor Easter. Give her a noserub from me. Love

Easter is booked in for Wednesday for her spay. I checked her this morning and she looks a little sore but I am positive she will make a full recovery as it's not a huge open wound.
I'm going to spay one at a time as I will find that easier to manage.

Nickie, yes it is quite appropriate that my hare portraits have paid for Easter's spay!

Oh poor girl, it's a difficult time for all buns at the mo, even the neutered boys seem to be playing up.

Great that your pics are selling to pay for it, I kinda like that economy. Lots of luck and vibes Hugs

The flippin car had to go to the garage so I couldn't get to the appointment as it's on the other side of town and she had to be there at 8am plus I had to get the kids to school. No car, I go nowhere.

But, she is booked in for a week wednesday and DH has the day off, so I can get there. Might take Hermione instead as she is very hormonal.
Easter has made a full recovery, bless her.
