hernia? bunny
my daughter has taken on 2 mini lop bunnies, brother and sister. The male developed a navel hernia. Vet said leave it - will be ok. It was as big as a sprout. Hernia ruptured, and bunny died.
Now the sister bunny has developed a lump in the same area. It is currently about pea sized (or a little bigger).
My daughter is on benefits and cannot afford big vet fees - but she is a very consciensious owner.
Bunny is not yet spayed or vaccinated, but this will be done. However, she is worried about this lump - given the history of her brother.
Has anyone experienced this problem?

Re: hernia? bunny
Not personally, but i know someone who did and the bun died. Is your daughter in the catchment area for a PDSA hospital? I suggest getting the bun looked at, and explaining what happened with her brother. Surely they cant just leave it.

Re: hernia? bunny
Thumper had a hernia at her back end. The vet told me it was the first time he'd ever seen a hernia in a rabbit. I believe it's very unusual.
They wouldn't do anything about it because the skin was so thin. She coped very well with it. She knew herself that she could no longer jump up on things, if she had jumped up, the skin would have split. It amazed me how she just knew
It never bothered her. It was the tumor that got her in the end.
I had it checked regularly by the vet though, just to be on the safe side.

Helen has a hernia and it's an old one and our vet said the same as your vet that her skin was to thin.

Sending positive and calming vibes for the little bunny, your daughter and some discerning vibes for the vet so the right procedures will be done and done well.
