Litter help please.
I'm not getting very far with litter training. Regards the wee, they do use it, but then they don't. Could it be that they only like to use them when there's no wee on the newspaper? I can't get them used to me emptying it every time they use it because I work full time!!
Would it be wise to try adding some wood litter to see if things improve?
I've had a read of some of the litter training threads already in existance and I think it's probably a good idea, but would love some reassurance?
I'm thinking newspaper + litter + hay on top?
Thank you!!

Re: Litter help please.
i find marshall uses his litter tray till he deems to too dirty and then he wont go in there. that maybe what they are doing and a litter in there would help it be longer before clean becomes too dirty

Re: Litter help please.
That is exactly where my trail of thought was going
Thanks, I'll give it a go! What have I got to lose?

Re: Litter help please.
We put newspaper first in the litter trays then megazorb and top it with hay as they love to poop and eat hay at the same time

I think my two do too but the unfortunate thing is that they eat the hay from the outside of the tray. I keep picking them up and putting them in the tray but they keep jumping out again
They also like to poo when they are running

Re: Litter help please.
ha ha Marshall and Sheamus do that too .... although they have high sided litter trays and just seem to awkwardly lean over the side and munch silly buns

Have you put hay on top, or use megazorb as it's a lot softer and we find cheaper.

Re: Litter help please.
I use megazorb for the piggies during the winter and it is really good stuff. If they are eating and pooing outside the tray have you considered using a covered tray? The they have to get in to eat the hay - you could try it out by starting with putting the tray in a box.

Re: Litter help please.
There was only one wee outside the tray this morning and even then I think somebun just had their bum over the edge of the tray but there were still poops everywhere!!!!
I am thinking about megazorb but I'm not sure where I could keep it. Their stuff is already taking up 3/4 of my utility room and the big cupboard in there, plus another cupboard in the kitchen
Cheryl, I don't have a proper hooded tray, but I've just put one tray in Thumper's carrier and another in the pop up play cube thing they have!
Thanks, worth a go

I actually worded that badly I meant 3/4 of the cupboard in the utility room, but it's like a little room!! Plus the cupboard in the kitchen
There's all sorts in there tunnels, tubes, carrier, towels, a million toys It's no wonder OH gets annoyed
