Remembering Molly
From Sparky's Humum:
Sweet Molly - you would have been one year old today.
You were the quiet one, the well-behaved one – never any trouble and never the instigator of any scuffles although you were quite capable of defending yourself if provoked. After you and your litter-mates were neutered, you never really seemed to settle back with the rest of them. If there was ever a bunny on their own, it would be you, while the other four paired off and hogged the sunbeams. I knew you weren’t very happy and the only place left I could put you was indoors. Rosie Roo had not long joined us and was still settling, and Sparky was in while we battled her digestive problems and because we had not long lost her last litter-mate, Rocky. I really had my doubts about three girls together, especially when one of them was Rosie. She and Sparky already lived together but didn’t interact much – I think it was more tolerance than a bonded relationship. The three of you sat with me in the little back bedroom for a few hours one evening. Roo was all for bouncing off the walls and you weren’t quite sure what to make of her, were you? Sparky was completely unbothered, although you did give her a pre-emptive nip
I put you all back in the huge pen downstairs and left you overnight. As I came down stairs in the morning I heard a scuffle but was met with three completely innocent looking faces by the time I got through the door I think you and Rosie were just deciding she was going to be boss. Apart from when you were going to be And that was it, the easiest bond I have ever done with the three most unlikely subjects, and one of the strongest bonds I have ever seen. You were the peace-maker
You three soon moved outside- it was mid-summer, there was a lovely chalet and pen waiting, and we couldn’t put up with Roo eating any more of the house. You all seemed very content, especially when the sun got round into the pen or chalet and you’d all be piled up together fast asleep.
But as it got colder you started getting snuffly. We’d lost Sunny and Rocky to ‘snuffles’ so we threw everything we could at you. We tried Baytril and Flagyl, and you were so good with your oral meds, even the ones you really really didn’t like. But they didn’t touch it. Then we found the Alamycin, and that definitely had an effect. You had good days, days when you were like your old self, and that is what made it so hard to know what to do. One day you would run into the house, jump on the sofa and demand veggies.
The next I would have to carry you in and spend two hours hand-feeding you morsels dipped in water. One night I would be thinking ‘Tomorrow might be the day’ and in the morning you would bound out of bed and stuff your head in the bowl as soon as I poured pellets in it. That last week was so hard, every day I would take you in for a jab and the vet and I would be watching you nose around the room and trying to judge your quality of life. I hope we didn’t get it too badly wrong, sweetheart, and I hope I didn’t make you suffer.
You seemed to perk right up that last week. We’d gone on holiday and the most wonderful neighbours in the world were taking care of you all, including popping you to the vet every three days for your injections. Even they said you seemed so much brighter. Then one night they found you in the tunnel outside, collapsed on your side, freezing cold and soaking wet. They rushed you to the vet but you died in Auntie Jen’s arms just as they pulled into the car-park. I can’t put into words just how grateful I am that they were there for you, that you were not alone.
It’s such a shame that it took the post-mortem to show that there really hadn’t been any hope for you, that the Pasteurella had caused lesions on your lungs and that you weren’t ever likely to recover. I hope that I did the right things for you for the right reasons. Thankyou for teaching us so much that has helped Sparky, I'm just so sorry we came across that knowledge too late to help you.
I knew you all your life, sweetie, and loved you for every day of it. I miss you still.
I hope you’re having a lovely time at the bridge, binkying through the meadows with Sunny and Rocky. I hope you have met Pud and Thumper and all the other special buns, and that Fudge found you all last week while you wait to be re-united with those of us left behind.

What a special, beautiful girl she was. I'm sitting here with tears running down my face
Sparky, give your humum big from me. She did everything she could for Molly and I'm sure Molly is so grateful that she fought for her and did everything that she could to try and make her better x

Re: Remembering Molly
Such a lovely tribute, I can't stop myself from crying now. Molly is absolutely beautiful and it sounds as though she had a wonderful life, although cut far too short. Thinking of you Molly and all of your family x x

Re: Remembering Molly
That reminds me of an incident which made Humum laugh.gentl wrote:I cannot stop the tears. Binky free little one and

We don't have strawberries in the house as Hudad is highly allergic to them. But one day last summer, the most wonderful neighbours in the world sent over some odd strawberry tops and a couple of over-ripe strawberries. Of course, none of us had ever tried strawberries before. Humum went round bun by bun, offering a piece of strawberry, and bun by bun the strawberry got a sniff, then a turned-up nose. One or two of them even gave her a horrified look as if to say 'I've never had this before! Are you trying to poison me?!'
Until Humum got to Molly, who didn't even sniff at it but gulped it straight down with a 'My Humum offered it to me so it must be ok' expression. Humum watched as she chewed, and as she got the taste of it her eyes widened and she smiled (Humum swears that is true) then started begging for more
