First vet trip done *sigh* U/D SERIOUSLY hacked off!!!!
So, we're not long back from the vet. I have 2 not very happy bunnies hiding down the back of the sofa
It was a vet I hadn't met before. They got a check over, their VHD vaccinations, weighed and their sex double checked. We thought for a minute that Junior was a girl but she found them eventually!!
Molly weighs 0.91kg and Junior is 1.05kg. Porker
The vet agreed that because they're major hay munchers, to carry on as we are with the pellets
We spoke about having Junior neutered. (This is where the *sigh* comes in!) He is booked in to be done a week tomorrow. I asked the vet if they would take Molly too and after a bit of chat she concluded that she sees no benefit in taking her in with him
I then had the same conversation with the receptionist (the vet probably thinks I'm a major moo now!) and she told me that she agrees that there is no benefit but the vet that will be doing it just so happens to be the senior partner so she will ask him tomorrow and will phone and let me know.
I'm right to be pushing this, aren't I?

as i understand it, it more of a risk to their bond if you split them up for such a long period of time [how long is he at the vets for? when are you picking him up?] So i would say yes you are

I think you are absolutely right - in fact I would be saying Molly is coming too, no arguments. Several times I have turned up with Flo when Bruce goes for a dental and the vets have said 'oh there are 2' to which the reply is always 'yes they stay together'. No asking, no quibbling, if they want my money they take both buns. I don't pay them to question my sanity.

My vets happily took Annie when charlie went in.
In fact the vet fell completely in love with her.
Sending lots of neutering vibes for the gorgeous little chap x x

I think you should take them both in, but in the past I have taken single buns in for procedures and then just popped them back together. Mine never showed any problem, but your two are a new bond - I know they are siblings but they are hitting teenage years - so there is no point in giving yourself a big problem when you don't need one.

Re: First vet trip done *sigh* U/D SERIOUSLY hacked off!!!!
Thanks guys. I knew myself I was right but I needed some reassurance
I would be dropping him off at 8 and not picking him up until after 5!!!
When the receptionist said she would ask the senior partner I said something along the lines of "just tell him if it's not a huge inconvenience I want her here with him"
They said they would have to separate them after his op anyway until he comes round and I appreciate that, but surely they will still know the other is there.
I'm a bit peed off to be honest

Don't be afraid to be a bit pushy and speak to the senior partner yourself, and just explain that you want these two little guys to have a lifetime of the best care possible.
It might also be worth asking who the most bunny-savvy vet at the practice is and trying to see them every time - if they know your buns they are more likely to see for themselves if they are ever off-colour or not behaving as they usually do.
It makes for real peace of mind when you are in a crisis situation that you can arrive at the vets, know that they will do the very best for the buns, and that they will give you the very best advice possible even under the most difficult of circumstances.
We really get the feeling that everyone at our practice cares about us lot (well, they have seen an awful lot of me )

Re: First vet trip done *sigh* U/D SERIOUSLY hacked off!!!!
I will be as pushy as I possibly can be because I really can't be risking them falling out
I was hoping they'd call today but they didn't. There's a whole week yet, so plenty time I suppose.
Thumper had a considerable amount of vet visits in her last few years and I can't fault them for everything they did for her. Often it was the senior partner we saw with her and if it wasn't him, it was another gentleman. Both were extremely good with her.
I've never seen this lady before although I spoke to her on the phone the week before Thumper died and I am by no means questioning her skills as a vet The other two have an advantage, they know what I am like
The vet company have a few surgeries but most of the vets spend most of their time at the animal hospital, which is a fair bit down the road (where I was taking Thumper when she died in the car) perhaps this lady was just doing holiday cover or something.
Sorry, I've gone off on a tangent
Hopefully Mr. Boss Man will say its ok for her to go

Re: First vet trip done *sigh* U/D SERIOUSLY hacked off!!!!
I've never been in that situation (yet) but from what I've read here they should be together. They don't understand poor things. I think a 'caretaker' bunny would be comforting and such a perfect warmer for a recovering bunny. You are definitely NOT being too pushy.
I have a feeling when we get Thumper neutered that I may be demanding to observe the operation. Which would not be a good thing thinking about the time my son was 4 he got a 3mm cut over his eyebrow. I freaked. I can't believe I did. During that time I was alternating working trauma er-surgery and trauma- er burn and had seen things nightmares are made of daily. But that was my little boy! LOL I can laugh about it now. My son didn't even cry. I'd probably question every move the vet made and be in tears the entire time!

Can you cross your fingers for us please!! I've just chased up the vet surgery because I've not had an answer about whether Molly can go to the vet with Junior tomorrow.
I'm rather nervous about the impending phone call from Mr Boss Man

Fingers crossed! I always take my 2 in together, and my vet actually encouraged it. He said it's good for the accompanying bun to get used to trips to the vet, and they comfort each other. Ted didn't shake when Toffee was with him, unlike other trips.

We always take a bonded pair to the vets together, we took Ruby with Charlie yesterday, when Rosie had her blockage Op she went down with Murphy and we dropped her off and came home with Murphy. If you have a nervous pair they can take comfort in one another. We never ask can we take both we just take them.

Re: First vet trip done *sigh* U/D SERIOUSLY hacked off!!!!
So the vet phoned.
I explained to him why I wanted her there. He said they shouldn't be together now anyway I said they aren't, he basically said what's the point then. I explained they would be able to smell each other etc he said none of their pens face each other, I said that's fine. He eventually said yes but they have limited space so she'd have to stay in her box all day
I offered to pay extra for the use of the pen, he said its not about cost.
I then said I'm not trying to be difficult about it and he said he's in the middle of consulting and doesn't have all afternoon to discuss it
I think she'd be better of at home than in that box all bloody day

If you were living in a city area I'd be saying 'you should change vets as these obviously aren't very bunny minded'.

I know, I'm just going to have to get as many people go visit her as possible. Poor girl will be on her own for the first time in her life I would take the day off work but I can't because our general manager is overseas and I need to be here to coverfall3n-ang3l wrote:i think your right, she would be better of at home than stuck in the box all day,i think he was really rude
