Re: Magpies trying to eat buns.
My brother's dogs were being attacked by crows a while back, and they are not small dogs! One is a lurcher and the other is a collie x. The crows were even starting to attack my niece, who was then just over a year old.
My cat Gizmo brought a live magpie in through the cat flap last year, he tends to keep the birds away from our house. I don't feed the birds either - I don't want to encourage them into the claws of Gizmo.
I'll keep a look out though when my pair are out in the garden.

Re: Magpies trying to eat buns.
I threw some bread out (meant for the seagulls /pigeons) and the magpies are back .... they are so clever , picking up the bread and dunking it in the bird bath before eating it.
Magpies also tried chasing the pigeons away .. .who just stared at their bread dunking routine !
The weather here is so awful windy and rain that Pumpkin and Binky are peering all the action through the french door windows

Re: Magpies trying to eat buns.
As suggested I put bread and fur out on the lawn next to the runs for the past 2 days ... the magpies take the bread and are not interested in the fur at all !
I spoke to the vet , she has sheep , the magpies perch on her sheep and peck them..if one of the sheep is ill the magpies will peck the sheeps eyes out... HORRIBLE
Vet thinks the magpies want the bunnies eyes ... I am inclined to agree now they didnt take the fur bait. I have stopped feeding the birds and hope they will disappear.

Eek!!! I knew there was as a reason I wasn't keen on birds!! Pet birds and little things like sparrows are fine, anything else and me no like!!!
(No that I'd ever do them any harm!)

Re: Magpies trying to eat buns.
Ive taken all the bird food away for the past few weeks, it doesnt seem to have made a difference they still fly into garden to see if they can get near buns... have to be with the all time.
Shockingly yesterday .. magpie flew down and tried to catch a pigeon, nearly managed it got a good clump of feathers..... Didnt even know they woudl try and eat other birds... The pigeons are bigger than themselves and Pumpkin so I know that Pumpkin would stand a chance .... Its horrible with these magpies around.
Got other things to think about with my poor Binky being so ill at the minute in infirmary section.
Just thought I would update.... If I put food out at least magpies might eat the food rather than another bird or bun....
