Eating Straw
Is it an issue?
The hutch in the playhouse is lined with newspaper and straw, the buns hay is above their litter tray in a hanging basket. I noticed this morning that htey have eaten hardley any of it. (I gave them hay in a plantpot in the run this morning to make it a bit more interesting), but i caught Marley eating the straw in the hutch when i came home tonight.
Is it a problem? Im not sure i can afford to line their hutch with their posh hay...

Re: Eating Straw
If I remember rightly there is nothing wrong with eating straw, it just doesn't do the good that hay does i.e the fibre

Re: Eating Straw

Is there any chance that they would develop a preference for the straw over the hay?Tuckerbunnies wrote:Yes they can eat straw it shouldn't be an issue

Re: Eating Straw
I'm sure I remember a conversation on here about this ages and ages ago and someone said then that the likelyhood of them developing a preference to straw over hay was unlikely
Apparently hay is much more nommy!!

Apparently not this hay! I get a different type each time, i guess they dont like the Timothy and Rye as much. Its time for some Ings hay next, but it wont be for a month or 2! Maybe if i put this hay down in the hutch, i can get it used up quicker?

Re: Eating Straw
my two are awkward like that!
I had a bale, they loved it then went off it so I got a different bale, they loved that then went off it so I bought a new bag and they loved it and it ran out. So I bought what I thought was the same but apparently it isn't so they've gone back to bale 2!

I used to think Thumper was awkward with hay, at least she was consistent - She refused to eat it all!
