Deterrents
Nibbler has gotten in to an annoying habit of ripping up the carpet. He finds (or makes) a straggly end then just rips away. I'm not too bothered if he decides to chew walls because I can at least fill those in, but I can't start making carpets! So far I've just been putting masking tape down and for the main part does seem to stop him from pulling it up, but it's not that great to look at and if he works out that by pulling up the tape he can get to the carpet I'm in trouble. I don't really want to be using tape either, because even if it's really not sticky I don't want the chance of him pulling at it and it getting stuck to him. Has anyone found a good deterrent for this? I've tried bitter spray on furniture before and he really doesn't seem to care and just carries on

Re: Deterrents
I have just had to put furniture over hotspots. And replace a carpet with hard flooring in one room!

Re: Deterrents
Daisy does this I can't tell you how many rugs we have been through.......
He does it for attention now cos he knows we will tell him off - so now he gets evicted from the front room - we don't say anything other that "out" - seems to be working.........

Re: Deterrents
Would putting a towel/fleece on the area to give him something else to chew on help?

Re: Deterrents
Temperance used to be terrible for ripping up carpet, she still does it but not as badly. We also tried the bitter spray but it made no difference. Best solution has been to cover the prime ripping spots (mostly corners), shouting 'NO' is quite effective but you have to catch her quickly and it usually takes two or three 'NO's' before she binkies off (because destroying our stuff is the megalols to bunnies), also having a supply of socks to launch in her general direction (but not actually hit her) when she starts destroying.

so true!
Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately Nibbler seems to be quite ignorant if I tell him not to do something. There's been times when I've had to physically remove him because he complete ignores my no's and claps. I think he considers me a push over. Like at night time he will completely ignore me if I tell him to go to bed, OH just has to stand up and say 'you know where' and he hops straight off to bed! Don't think I could put a fleece or towel down either, there are too many areas to do that unfortunately. He's been pretty much free range for the last few weeks so I can't watch him all the time either! I think it's going to be a case of watching him when I can and accepting the inevitable

Re: Deterrents
Snuffie was a dreadful chewer when he was young love, walls furniture and yes, carpets and wires. We now have vinyl flooring and have redecorated but you can still see where it has been "Snuffied." We would shout at him and he would just run off binkying - little devi LOL!!
Sorry I cannot bring better news.
