Happy 1st birthday my darling little girl

Florence, what can I say. I hope the first year of your life has been filled with fun, happiness and that you feel loved. I certainly know that when it felt like the world had turned its back on me you were there to keep me going, and I will be eternally grateful for that. When it felt like no one else was there for me, you were, to listen, to cheer me up and to be there when I got upset.

It’s still 9 weeks away from when you came to live with me, and 8.5 weeks since the first time I saw you, a little bundle of black fur who came running up to me periscoping. At that point I knew I had to have you, and I spent a day asking your Daddy, who at that point was already thinking about leaving me (not that I knew it). He gave in very quickly, he was as taken by you as I was, it was him who spotted you, I noticed your brother first. I think you melted both of us.

You’ve been there for me so much Florence, I don’t think you realise just how much. You’ve been there for me to cry on, to talk to, to get up for, to come home to. I have never loved a pet quite like the way I love you, you are so special. You’re also the first bunny who’s ever groomed me, and the first time you done that, about two or three weeks after you moved in, I knew you were just meant to be my bunny.

I know I moan about you sometimes, but I honestly worship the ground you run on, and I would do anything for you. It’s taken me so long to get used to you being free range, I was so worried to start with in case you hurt yourself, and I panicked if I couldn’t see you. But now I’m getting a bit better, and you’re starting to appear when I call you.

When I started thinking about getting you a friend, I was warned our relationship might change. When I dropped you off for boarding I was sad to leave you, it was the longest we had been apart, but to hear on day one you and Dougal had fallen completely in love I felt so happy I’d done it for you, and for you to greet me with a kiss when I collected you both showed me that you still adored your mummy, maybe even more so because I got you a bunny friend.

Dougal moving in was an experience! He is the complete opposite of you, he’s shy, reserved, scared. Whenever I take you anywhere, or anyone comes to meet you, everyone comments how bolshy and confident you are. I’ve been told by the rescue the reason you and Dougals partnership works so well is because he is bigger than you, and you probably felt a bit intimidated and bowed down to him. I honestly thought you would be the boss in any relationship, but Dougal is certainly in charge, and seeing you looking after him those first few weeks, and not leaving his side, was magical. Even now when I see the two of you cuddled up I feel happy. Dougal is amazing, and I like to think he adores me as much as he adores you, but you are definitely top place in his heart.

Happy Birthday princess. May this be the first of many birthdays we share. I hope you’re as happy as I am that I have you in my life.

I'm so glad they arrived - Humum was very slack and didn't post them until yesterday

As soon as we saw the zebra, we knew Dougal had to have it because it matched. Gizmo and I decided then told Humum to wrap them up - I'm not going near sellotape again after the Great Christmas Fiasco
