Bonding vibes
Allright everyone, I need all the spare bonding vibes you can muster!! I've finally worked up the guts to bond Piper and Alfred today and I'm terrified
So if you could all cross your fingers that things will go well and I won't have a melt-down I would be much obliged!!

Re: Bonding vibes
Oooh - I'll send you loads and loads of bonding vibes - I know how stressful it is. I think Bella and Tarquin will be the one and only time I try bonding myself. Though having said that, after them hating each other at first sight and having to live separately for months, their actual bonding was relatively easy and didn't involve any of the chasing or fur pulling that I was expecting. But the thought sends shivers down my spine

Re: Bonding vibes
Well I can't tell if it's going well or not I took them for a car ride and they both hate that so much they were snuggled together in the carrier which I took as a good sign.
Now that I've got them back here they've started fighting. They stayed snuggled in the carrier for a good twenty minutes but as soon as they ventured out they've been at it
I totally neutralized the territory and got them all new litter trays and brand new boxes to hide in so that shouldn't be the problem... Oi, I may just give up I'm such a wuss

Re: Bonding vibes
no advice on the bonding coz i was a wuss and let Sooz do it - but sending loads of soothing vibes for you and bonding vibes for the buns. It's early days yet i think as long as there is no outright violence you should keep it up

Re: Bonding vibes
My two bunnies absolutely hated each other when I first got them together. Wolfie had been bonded with a female called Hollie who died last July. After a couple of weeks, we felt he was very lonely. He was staying in the hutch a lot which was not like him.
At the end of August we came back from Dundee SSPCA with a female called Gloria for him. She wasn't neutered but he was so we thought things would be OK. We put them into separate areas but left a wire fence for them to sniff each other through. She was absolutely fascinated by him and he her.
After a week, I decided to let them out and see what happened. (The previous bonding with Wolfie and Hollie had gone like this and had been love at first sight)
I waited with the gloves and water bottle, just in case. They got on OK. Lots of sniffing and then furious bonking from Wolfie (which was funny as she is half his size again!) After this things turned ugly. Gloria decided she wasn't going to be bonked and kept turning round. This became circling and then the fur was literally flying. I separated them.
Tried them in the bath which seemed to go better, but outside they were just too active. The compound was too big and they were too quick.
I then moved into Plan B. Put one of them in the covered run which is inside the compound and locked it up. The other would be loose outside. In the afternoon I would change the buns round so they both had time loose.
One day Gloria broke out of the covered run, there was a brief fight and that was it. She and he are now deeply in love. They sit grooming and licking each other and are very content.
Stick in there and keep going. Even if it seems they will never bond, give it time.
Sorry the post is so long!

Re: Bonding vibes
Well I ended up seperating them last night
They were together about eight hours yesterday and the fighting was only getting worse. Poor Alfred looked absolutely terrified by the end of it, he was just huddled up in the corner tensed. I don't know that he ate much of anything the entire time either. I felt so bad for the little guy that I had to seperate them.
Should I try again and on what conditions? I could try again today or should I wait? Can I try in the same place I tried before (neutralising it again of course)?
Stupid bonding, I wish there was someone nearby to do it for me

It's a really tense thing to do. They are so cute and adorable, but so absolutely bloody horrible to each other sometimes!!

Re: Bonding vibes
There wasn't any serious, lock-down fighting, no blood or anything but poor Alfred was terrified He was huddled in the corner tensed up the whole time and I don't think he ate anything all day. That's the main reason I seperated them.
I'll just have to try again I guess Bonding isn't for sissies I tell ya, which I definitely am

Re: Bonding vibes
When I rebonded Meggie and Dusty he kept chasing her and as she is a wimp she tried to run away as quick as she could as soon as he went near her.
So I made the area smaller so she couldn't run and watched carefully incase he tried to bite her.
As she couldn't run she calmed down and within an hour was grooming him.
You have to be brave! My mum would've seperated them at the first chase if I'd let her.
