Clingy Behavior Empty Clingy Behavior

Post by gentl Wed Jul 25, 2012 8:40 pm

Mr. Independent, AKA Thumper, has become clingy the past several days. He's
demanding attention at least once an hour from me. Which is OK with me! Very Happy but
this is totally out of character for him. He started giving me bedtime snuggles
several weeks ago, but this is A LOT!

He's wanting me to rub the base of his ears and around where the jaw hinges.
Other than this behavior change he seems fine. Running, hopping, climbing, eating
and pooping all normal. He's not letting me get a good look deep into his ears but
they do not appear to be bothering him.

Should I be concerned? He seems happy. When he lays beside me he is in the
all lazed out position. Just real mellow! scratch confused scratch confused

I'm not sure how long you've had Thumper, so this may not apply, but if it's not been too long maybe he has just now grown more confident and comfortable with your contact and realised actually, this is quite good!

We have had Thumper about 8-9 months. He is supposed to be about
3 yrs old. He is a rescue and you never know what all they have been
through.

If Thumper was shaking his head a lot and scratting at his ear's I would say he may have a build up of wax in his ears and may need some ear drops otherwise it could be what Katie said he may feel the need to look after you, when my back was really bad and I couldn't stand and was laid on the sofa every day our dwarf lop Keegan never left me he was my guardian Angel, sometimes he would jump on the sofa and lay beside me. He was wonderful .

Well, I've been really sick before, but then we hadn't yet really bonded well yet. I think you are right. I'll
bet he has been worried about me. Bless him! I have been going through some major crises and feeling
under the weather to boot. Now I feel so guilty. I was crying pretty hard a few days ago before this all
started and was telling him I just wish I could pet him and love on him a bit because it would cheer me
up and help me feel better. I know he couldn't understand the words, but perhaps could sense I needed
a bit of a cuddle.

I love my bunny!

[b]I have allways found in the past with our cats that if anyone was realy ill or really down the cats would not leave our sides I didn't realise it was the same with bunns allthough it would make a bit of sence of a few things that have happened in the past. But the thought of the crazy gang looking after me if I was ill " Hmmm nurse Fizz" "Dr Jazz No " and Daisy running round with a thermomiter not quite knowing where to stick Shocked

Lol Ruffin! ROFL

I think they definitely know. When I came back from having my grandparent's dog PTS last Tuesday I went into my bedroom and sat on the floor and cried. Willow knew instantly something was up and she sat in my lap and let me cry to her, stroke her and give her kisses. Maybe Thumper sensed it too, the little darlings Love

I've told this story several times here, but there are new folks and I love telling the story because it is about my beloved Bridge bunny, Lady.

Lady was an adorable Holland mini-lop. White but her nose, the tip,sof her ears, paws and tail had a slight dusting of gray. She looked like she had been chasing dust bunnies and got dusty herself.

Anyway....any time one of us was ill she would place herself between the sick person and everyone else. If you tried to bring food or medicine to the person you had to toss it or be nipped at. She would lunge at you. That was pretty remarkable because she was blind her last few years. She was my barometer as to whether my son was actually ill or faking it when he didn't want to go to school.

His appendix had burst when he was in 5th grade and he was quite ill for a long time. After he got out of the hospital we actually had to have him in the living room instead of the bedroom because that was the only way we could get to him without being nipped and tripped by a bun.

I'm crying/smiling because I miss her so badly but she made me so happy. She LOVED to ride in the car. She loved to ride where she could look out the window. She spent much of out 1500 mile move with her front paws on my shoulder looking out. My ex had figured out a way to modify the seatbelt so a loop cradled her back and bum so if I made a fast stop or got bumped she would be safe. I miss her sweet antics so much.

Lady sounds like a truly remarkable bunny and one in a million. We all have our one in a million pets, and I think she was yours. I'm so sorry you lost her but just comfort yourself with those amazing memories. I'm sure she is watching down on all of you from the bridge now. Hugs

I agree we do and yes, she is looking down. She has been the only doe we have ever had. That might have been part of her nurturing behavior. We lost her to ovarian cancer that had spread. She was blinded the last several years because of it. The vet had no idea and neither did we. She was 8. We didn't know the necessity of spaying. Sad We just went along with what the vet said. Unfortunately bunnies are largely considered livestock. Finding a vet that treats them regularly has proven to be daunting.
