Bald spot
I had Ted to the vet this evening as he has a bald spot on the back of his neck. I only noticed it yesterday - I knew a while back that he and Toffee had been scuffling and the fur had been flying a little, but it settled. The way his fur is so long it covered it, and I didn't really notice, but the way he was washing yesterday the fur fell away.
We're at a bit of a loss really. The vet looked, and the skin is healthy, his coat is all healthy, there is no sign of any parasite or anything. The only thing we can think of is that Toffee has been pulling it out. But there are never any clumps of fur around and I've not seen any further sign of fighting. The vet gave him something just in case it is a parasite, but we don't think that's the case.
Any ideas anyone?

Re: Bald spot
could it be that toffee is showing ted dominance and you just haven't noticed it over time

Re: Bald spot
I have little bald patches at the base at the backs of my ears. The skin looks perfect and completely healthy, no sign of mites and I am not showing any discomfort at all. Humum thinks it's either a bit of zealous grooming by Gizmo, or because I am weird

Marshall is much the same, i wonder if its because his fur is lighter? Other than that the hair looks fine, just sotra parted

Re: Bald spot
A few weeks ago at the rescue I went to get Badger out and noticed he had several huge bald spots on his back and neck! He lives on his own so it definitely wasn't scrapping that had caused it. I was very shocked and rather puzzled as there was no fur in his hutch and he had apparently been perfectly fine the day before. The skin seemed perfect, no redness or soreness and was healthy and pink (and black where his marking shsould be lol).
The vets treated him for mites and 2 weeks later his fur has all grown back. It was very odd as usually animals with mites (in past experience) scratch so much they break the skin and cause redness and scabs and even bleeding. He seemed fine in himself and wasn't irritated at all but since the treatment worked it must have been mites.
I hope the treatment works for your bun and it's not because of fur pulling by your other bun.

Re: Bald spot
Sometimes stress can cause fur mites on rabbits, I remember Pud being on a course of medication and ear drops for his ear infection when we got him and he hated the ear drops at the time and within days he started with mites Bless him.

Re: Bald spot
Do peeps think I might need mite treatment? If so, what form is it available in? (No oral meds please....)
Would Gizzy need it too, although he's not got any bald spots?
