Rabbits in p@h rescue section
Was in pets @ home in edinburgh (fort kinnard) yesterday, was in the area then remembered needed few bits. So we had a nose round the store, much more animals, spiders ewwwe, snakes, milipeed HATE THEM, and a bigger furry section. The rescue rabbits were lovely, but 4 new ones just in looked odd, they looked more like hares to me, long skinny bodies & legs and a tiny pointed nose, but the sign said rabbits, 2 were colour if wildies, 1 black spots, and the 1 on its own was tan spots, the tan strip down its back really cought my attention. I wasnt looking to addopt them just found their shape really odd, and the markings on the tan 1 were lovely. What kind of bunnies were these crossed with, do you think hares can mate with bunnies.

Looked very similar to this http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=belgian+hare+rabbit&hl=en&client=safari&tbo=d&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=Iac0UPukI4uY0QX46oGwCA&ved=0CC8Q_AUoAQ&biw=1024&bih=672#biv=i|106;d|e4Thn8e1tqrqBM:
But nose was smaller almost a point.

Re: Rabbits in p@h rescue section
Funny you should mention this as we were in a garden centre the other day and they had two agouti's in. Nothing unusual there except for the slender and pointy shape of their bodies and faces, I could have sworn (having a wildie myself) they were at least part wildie. I hope not, as they could end up making a very challenging pet for someone.
Re: Rabbits in p@h rescue section
If it was a Belgian hare, then they are challenging bunnies. They need a hell of a lot of space and special care. Not surprising they ended up being sent for adoption.
Pawz had one in not that long ago. He was so beautiful that I was very tempted, but knew I wouldn't be able to provide the environment he needed.
He got the right home in the end I hope these ones in P@H do too.

Re: Rabbits in p@h rescue section
These 4 had almost same body as the belgian hare, nose narrowed just above the jaw bone, then widened a tiny bit. However their the wrong colour for belgains by looks of my research, the shop havent added the breed type so noone is going to be prepared for the possible challanging nature. 2 deffo looked like wildies & other 2 had the english markings.

Their all babies by looks of them about 10-12 weeks old I'm thinking. I hope they look into there needs prior to releasing them.

Re: Rabbits in p@h rescue section
They are probably cross breeds with a lot of belgian hare in them.

Anything like our foster orphans?
They're ten days or so older now so have filled out a little, but now they just appear to be all back leg at the moment - definitely not normal plump baby bun shaped...

Re: Rabbits in p@h rescue section
Perhaps some rex in there, sometimes when I look at Hermione & Easter I see 'hare' due to their slight frame and the arch under their belly and delicate limbs. The spots you refer to could possibly be dalmation. Probably wrong but the fur doesn;t have to be rex fur to be a rex cross. Can you take a photo with your phone?
