Re: Kale and broccoli?? U/D new question :)
Ours get kale and broccoli on a daily basis, but as you say not a huge amount. Each pair gets one floret (is that the right word ) of broccoli between them in the morning and a pinch of kale in the evening. They get fed veg twice a day, a mix of veg and herbs between the two meals.

Thank you (I think floret is the right word!)Sixer wrote:Ours get kale and broccoli on a daily basis, but as you say not a huge amount. I can't get them to eat herbs They look at me like I've insulted them. They were so disgusted by it one day that they covered it up so they couldn't see it

Re: Kale and broccoli?? U/D new question :)
We get about the same amount as Sixer's buns do - kale is high in calcium so we get literally a tiny sprinkle of the chopped stuff. We have it every day for a few days when Humum has bought a bag of it, then not any for a week or so. The same with broccoli, Humum buys a lump and when that is gone we get a break from it for a while.
We love both though

Thanks for info
I'm at a complete loss as to what to give them
Yep! I'm pretty sure it was the parsley they covered up that day and they didn't like the coriander, that's the first thing I tried them with.Sparky wrote:Even coriander and parsley?Thumper2001 wrote:I can't get them to eat herbs They look at me like I've insulted them. We give our gang broccoli and Kale daily but just small amounts due to the high calcium levels. We change their greens from time to time so they don't get fed up with the same things.

Willow is strange with veggies though, she will only eat green veg. Excluding carrots obviously

Re: Kale and broccoli?? U/D new question :)
Thank all!
Any suggestions what I could pick up for them tomorrow?
This is what we've tried that they don't like:
Parsley
Corriander
Dill
Erm, can't remember the rest of the herb names
Could I try baby spinach?
I'm sure I read romaine lettuce is ok but asda only have "romaine hearts" Is this ok?
I've seen spring greens but I've read enough horror stories on here to not want to try that.
They don't get carrot because it gives Junior small black poops
Thanks for any help, I'm running out of ideas!!!

Willow loves Romaine Lettuce, she has one leaf of it every day and I also use it as the main bulk of my guinea pig's veggie salads too. Romaine Hearts should be fine
It must be hard to please fussy buns without having tons and tons available to you!!

Thumper was worse! She liked very little and what she did like upset her stomach the older she got, to the point where the vet told us "no more veg". Especially difficult because she never ate hay either!!
One thing we never cut out was her beloved mange tout. Every morning and evening, she and I would sit on the floor together while she munched one. Her little face would light up
It's been nearly 10 months since she died, and I still can't bring myself to buy them for Molly and Junior

Re: Kale and broccoli?? U/D new question :)
Nibbler has spring greens and I've never encountered any problems directly from the spring greens. He has a little bit of brocolli if we have it in, but he mainly ends up getting herbs, mangetout/beans, cabbage, the green bits on cauliflowers (no idea what they would be called), celery and carrot tops. I try to switch it round for him and introduce different things but he can be quite picky with new foods.
I'd bought mint for him once and you could see he wanted to try it but couldn't bring himself to nibble it.. my friend came over with some home grown herbs, she ended up hand feeding them too him and now he loves his mint! Maybe that's the secret, get someone else to lavish them and they'll think it's amazing so actually try it?

Same here. I've tried not doing because of all the beliefs that it causes the stasis problems but we since have a diagnosis of adhesions for Erin and Elijah eats his poo (caused a blockage), so I've stopped blaming spring greens for their problems.
We now have a re-ramped Morrisons and the veg in there is world class I think it's less likely to be treated with anything as they have a condensation machine keeping it fresh, it's not bagged either. We now have 4 types of kale to choose from Having seen their reactions though curly kale is the one to go for.
As others have said, I also limit kale and broccoli because of the calcium content, but I've never seen any digestive upsets caused by either.
