Fizz not well U/D
[b]Sorry I would have got back to everyone earlyer but have been out of town all day, Ann took Fizz to the vets this morning they think its a respirartry infection however they cant hear anything. She has had 2 injections but still seems about the same she will eat if you take small pieces of food to her but she dosn't look very good at all I am really worried. I thought of bringing her in to the house but dont want to break the bond she has with Jazz also the hut they are in is not damp as the hut is in the garage also it is quite warm as both huts have small electric heaters that kick in if it gets to cold we will have to see what happens over the weekend

Poor Fizz
Can you see any muck up her nose? Is she sneezing? Do you know what the injections were?
If you have to bring her in, I'd bring Jazz too... and resign yourself to the fact that they may be in until Spring.

Re: Fizz not well U/D
[b]She isn't getting any worse as far as I can see but she dosnt seem to be getting any better she hasnt got any discharge from her nose and isn't sneezing at all, she is still eating and drinking when I take it to her. Ann thinks that one of the injections was presumably this I will be spelling wrong but "seflosportin" if she is no better tomorrow I will be taking her back (Fizz not Ann). Finealy if the crazy gang are moving into the house till spring I am moving into the hutch

Re: Fizz not well U/D
Sending some more vibes to her.
How does she seem in herself. Does she seem uncomfortable at all.
Its strange that they didnt give you any meds to take home.
I think you are right....if she is no better tomorrow take her back and ask to speak to a rabbit savvy vet Rob.

Re: Fizz not well U/D
[b]She isn't herself she is usualy first in there for munchies she is sitting on her own as I find unwell animals do tend to and is stopping in the shed and not venturing out which again is unusual as even in heavy rain she would sit under somthing outside or even just sit in the rain. I can also pick her up and stroke her wheras she would never let me normally so in that sence she is acting funny she will eat if I hand feed her but seems to struggle between the eating and breathing. I have just managed to terryfy myself found on one site a rabbit that was sat as she is doing with its head back caused in that bunn by a lung problem who had to be PTS that has depresed me. Also just looked out of the landing window at the runns Jazz was sat on top of the old hutch where they usualy both sit togeter at this time of nite and that chocked me up

Re: Fizz not well U/D
Did the vet palpate her body? When one of my piggies had lung problems you could feel that the lungs were solid in her chest cavity. You can also put your ear to her chest and listen for any unusual noises.
Cephalosporin is a broad spectrum antibiotic. If it is a respiratory infection you may be better off with an antibiotic that is more targeted to the job.

Re: Fizz not well U/D
Is she mouth breathing, Rob? Do you get the impression she is able to breathe through her nose at all?
I would really take her back to the vets first thing. I'd expect them to be able to hear some congestion on her chest if she is poorly enough to be mouth breathing. I agree with Cheryl that she needs an effective antibiotic - she may also benefit from pain relief (you know how painful a chest infection can be). The antibiotic we have is Alamycin by injection every three days. I know every case is different but this is the drug that keeps pasteurella at bay in three of us, after being through the experience of losing three buns on the 'normal' rabbit drugs.
If it is a respiratory infection, it is really important that the antibiotics are continued for at least two weeks after she seems to be fully recovered. So if your vet does not send her home with medication, find another vet.
Incidentally, with the antibiotic we have Humum can usually see a marked improvement within 24 hours of the first jab (with Jack it was within about 4 hours).
I know you are already horribly worried about her, but please keep an eye on her weight - it could drop off quite fast if she is not eating a fraction of what she usually does and she'll need every gram to help fight this.
I really hope the vet can find something that will help her to get over this. Thinking of you all

[b]She seems to be able to breath through her nose a bit but its when she eats you can tell she is strugling as would anyone with a nose problem the vet did give her 2 injections so I assume 1 was for the pain but I do agree that she needs some meds to bring out if anything with the weight she seems to have puffed out slightly which was anouther concern sorry didnt realise that you had medical problems Sparky I will be knocking on the vets door tomorrow I may be a big softy with most things but where my Bunnys are concerned I do draw the line they are to me more than pets they are part of the family

Re: Fizz not well U/D
FYI Sparky's alamycin is an oxytetracyline based anti-biotic. I am telling you that should you need to know about the groups of anti biotics. The tetracylines are a different group to the cephalosporins. According to 'when your rabbit needs special care' both are good for pasturellas but the tetracyclines have some effectiveness against staphylococcus.

That's fabulous news - I was really quite worried about her
I would ask the vet to give her a longer course of antibiotics anyway....

Well you would hide if your nose was looking odd.
Good to hear she is on the mend.
