Christmas Tree
This year as it is my first on my own (with just the boys), I decided to put my tree in a different place. As the buns' pens are in the usual spot, the tree is in my bay window. So furniture has been shifted and the tree sort of fits (it is 6 ft).
I let Sasha out as she was going frantic with nosiness and she walked up to it, sniffed it then started thumping. I thought she would eat it but she doesn't seem to like the smell - yippee.
Barley is now having an explore and since he's permanent scare of everything, he isn't thumping at all. I reckon if anybun is going to climb it he is the candidate! Have got some wire protection for the lights so just hope all goes well.
I think they are more annoyed about the furniture being moved as they have their little runs all sorted and now I have spoiled it! Bad me.

Re: Christmas Tree
I'm sure they'll forgive you if you give them a biscuit
I assume it's an artificial tree? But this might be a good place to mention that evergreens (e.g. real Christmas trees) are poisonous to buns
I'm going to make Hudad get our decorations out later, even though he is being all bah humbug about Christmas. I did tell him that with that attitude Santa Paws won't bring him anything nice

Re: Christmas Tree
It is a real one, but they aren't interested in eating it. I have been winding protective casing onto the lights - what a time it is taking! - and will barricade the corner to keep them away. I have some of the mesh panels left so will put them together to form a bunny fence.

Re: Christmas Tree
We have our tree near a window and Binky was trying so hard to help when we first put it up, it was so sweet. Anyway, we use the guinea pig pen for a guard to the christmas tree, tv and all the wiring, so it has a dual purpose. I dread to think what would happen if it were not there LOL!!

Re: Christmas Tree
We aren't going to even put up a tree this year. They've postponed my surgery again until the 20th so i'll be in the hospital or rehab center. Ba. Humbug.
I was trying to decorate a small tree for us to take to my mother. Rory kept grabbing the tiny garlands. I had to give up. I'll have to do it tomorrow before he gets out of his enclosure. He's discovered how to use his hay ball and he is loving it. i wonder what kind of jingle toy and pulling toy would be good?

Re: Christmas Tree
We put up our tree last night, ended up fishing Nibbler out from under it at least 5 times in the few hours it'd been up...I've learnt Nibbler does not listen to me saying no but will to my OH.. oh dear, he knows I'm far too much of a pushover with him

Re: Christmas Tree
We put our tree up last night, Temperance helped by tasting every single branch within reach - apparently our artificial tree is not as tasty as it looks
Once we had finished I put up a barrier around the tree and she spent the rest of the evening trying to get past it

Re: Christmas Tree
Well they have been really good. They are both having the odd nibble, but I checked online and Christmas trees are only dangerous to buns if they have been sprayed with flame retardant chemicals or are the spiky spruce type with sharp needles. I have a Nordman Fir which has sort of soft needles.
I have put trunking onto the wall where the extension lead comes out and the bit with the plugs sits on the windowsill. I have the cords well above bunny level so the lower part doesn't have lights. At the base, I have put some of the cube grids around it (doesn't keep Barley out, but nothing does! ) so that deters them.
They are getting bored with it now. When they first get out, they go over, have a nibble and then go off and do other things - like nibbling the carpet edges, the bookcase, etc.
I have a marauding rabbit detector though, a tinkly Christmas decoration with chimes that is hung low down. If anybun has a tug at the branches, it chimes so I know that someone is being norty!

Re: Christmas Tree
Our tree is goin up tomorrow, it'll stand on the coffee table out of bunny reach.
The year we got our Gizmo, we came downstairs one morning to find him sitting in the tree, about 2/3 of the way up. VERY funny!
