The great escape!
I'm still reeling from this - but basically, Truffles has learned to tunnel! We went out to get them in from the run on Thursday evening and shut the chickens in, only to walk into the orchard and see an empty run and two bunnies staring at us from under the trees.
We tried to catch them for three hours until it was pitch black and we couldn't see a thing. We even drove the tractors into the orchard and put all the lights on, but nothing. I was utterly convinced we'd lost them and I was inconsolable on Thursday night.
Friday morning I went out to see to the chickens, and there, chatting happily to my grey chicken is a very wet Truffles. He ran off but got caught up in some brambles and we were able to catch him, but there was no sign of Tibbs. Funnily enough the food we'd put out kept disappearing though We had various sighting of her through the day - she was holed up in the same bramble patch Truffles had been stuck in, and we tried EVERYTHING. Traps, food, towels, nets, you name it, she escaped from it all, and spent another night out in the dark I didn't think she could make it through two nights
There was no sign of her first thing when we went to get the cows, even in the bramble patch, and I just couldn't stop crying. Until half eleven when I went to get my eggs - Tibbler. Sitting in her run, munching broccoli like nothing had happened. She didn't even try to escape when I legged it over there and shut the door (we'd left it open and she just walked back in).
They are so glad to see each other again - it's so sweet! :luv: :luv: :luv: I'm thinking I might take them both for a check up at the local vets though - could they have picked anything up while they were out do you think? We have a big wild rabbit population round here - they're both up to date with their vaccinations, but still...

Re: The great escape!
What a pair of naughties!! I bet they've had a wild time while you've been cacking your pants and crying!
they obviously know what home is to be coming back for food! Bless them.
I'd probably have a little check up at the vets, for your own piece of mind more than anything.

Re: The great escape!
Tibbs is out again I swear, I put them in the run for less than half an hour while I cleaned the hutch. I put chicken wire underneath so they couldn't tunnel out. It's a covered run. I've got no clue how she managed it.
She's having the time of her life but I don't know if I'm going to be so lucky twice - three times if you count Arthur. I have the naughtiest buns in the world but I can't bear to lose her.
