This is why i didnt want to go!
Soo a friend of mine was off to see her friend last week and was trying to make me go. She was going to take some rabbits off her as due to poor health she is giving up all her rabbits and trying to Rehome them .... which is a mammoth task in itself. You see she was one of these 'backyard breeders' and although she seemed to genuinely care about her bunnies, their small cages made me never want to be there. So its a small miracle she has to give them up! apparently i learned later recently many people phoned various people like the rspca to try to get them to take the rabbits from her, but due to them being fed/ watered and cleaned out they have never done anything about it.
anyway after much rambling, she convinced me to go just to help her with carriers so i unhappily trudged along. Many of her buns had indeed gone from the previous time i had been there, and my friend was picking up a group of youngsters. While they were chatting i doomed myself by looking in the hutches thats when i spotted her. One lop in the corner of a small hutch. she was actually pretty curious about me, and i must have been stood there a while as the lady came out and told me she would probably have to stay with her as she was too old for re homing, no one wants old buns she told me. Shes only 3! and .... well i couldn't help myself. The poor little girl will be a breeder no more
here she is
Marshall has been over to investigate
They were having a chinning war, one chinning the inside the other the outside
Eventually i want to pair her with Marshall as i think he has been lonely of late, but she will be spayed before that happens. Also because if my habbit of M names for all my buns, and because she deserved a pretty name she is now Maisy.

Re: This is why i didnt want to go!
Oh she is adorable!Well done for rescuing her She is going to have a fab life now
Please forgive me for putting on my "boring hat" as I call it - I would actually keep her completely separate from any other rabbits, because she is likely to not be vaccinated if this person had so many rabbits. (unless you know she is of course). But also, she could be carrying diseases and parasites, such as pasteurella, or e.cuniculi etc. Its always something I think of, but even more so since Domino was poorly - he was fine one day, and then so poorly the next.
So I would keep her completely seperate - i.e don't let Marshall sniff her through the bars etc, and I would do a course of panacur
But well done for rescuing her,she is beautiful! I love the name Welcome to the forum Maisy haha x

Re: This is why i didnt want to go!
Shes already on a course of panacur
She is actually in a separate room from him for just that reason, but Marshall is a tiny slippery beast and was on there this morning without me knowing but they will be separate now until after she is spayed/vaccinated.
Don't worry about it! its good that you care so much a bout rabbit welfare

yes i think the last few were taken a couple days ago. Hopefully she wont be getting any more.
such a cute little girl, but i can tell she is going to be a terror. She was fairly quiet the first day which was to be expected but has spent most of the day [and night] ripping newspaper, stamping and widdling everywhere i knew it was too much to ask for another well behaved bun

Such a beautiful bunny! Cheers for you for adopting her. She will have a happy life now! I hope that she and Marshall will bond quickly. I think the name is perfect too. She has a special namesake!

Oh she is beautiful
I know how you feel, i would have found it incredibly difficult, and i would have probably ended up doing the same thing, which is why i cant let myself get into situations like that anymore, as i just cant afford it
Well done for giving her a loving new home, fingers crossed the bond works out, keep us all updated

Re: This is why i didnt want to go!
I had to come back for another look
You might well find that she calms down quite a lot once she is spayed. I'm not making any promises though (Humum is praying that works for Poppy )Amelia66 wrote:such a cute little girl, but i can tell she is going to be a terror. i think most of it is hormones as she has been honking at me when i go over to her cage! Either that or its her way of saying 'hey you, make with the crunchies'
