A new local pet shop has rabbits in the window, in this heat Empty A new local pet shop has rabbits in the window, in this heat

A new pet shop opened up in Darwen a few months ago and they sell rabbits and guinea pigs, in fact they even sell chins and some small rodents. It is a small shop and is hot to go in, I went in once and it was very clammy and awful and the worse thing is they have rabbits and guinea pigs in the window and the sun beams through, it is a big window too, I just want to smash it or rather smash the owner and rescue them all. I apologise if anybody knows the person who owns this store but I hate seeing them in the heat every time I am in the car with my dad and we drive passed. I do  not agree with pet shops that do this at all and it really gets me annoyed and frustrated. Hissy

I mean the owner may not realise I do not know and maybe he is a nice guy but I hate seeing rabbits etc in this weather in a boiling hot window.

Don't go to Aquamania/Petmania in Blackburn. The way they treat live animals is as bad if not worse. Plus the staff don't have a clue and don't seem to care. Mad

I wont, do not worry, we have a great 1 in Darwen called harvest animal feeds but does not sell pets but they are fantastic people and have some great prices on their items. When you and Amanda come over next week you should take a peek. I feel that the guy who owns this one does not care , he has a gorgeous bulldog that wonders up and down the shop too, he does look well looked after and I cannot say for sure if he is nice or does or does not care as I do not know him but I feel if they can stick them in the window without anything to protect form the heat then they possibly do not. They seem to sell and I do not know if people have had health problems from them or not or maybe I am just missing something, in case they do have something on the windows special but it does not look like it.

What do they do at Aquamania?

Oh my gosh pale

Those poor animals! No

Don't get me started on chins in pet shops Mad Rabbits and guinea pigs are bad enough, but they are such complex animals and people take them on thinking they're 'easy'. A PAH had chins really suffering in the heat, and when called out on it gave them a tin of pet food to sit against!! Ridiculous...

I so wish animals couldn't be sold in pet shops No

I agree, the chins are at least not in the window but the shop itself is hot, it is sad to see them like that.

luckily the p@h near me is pretty well air conditioned so its always cool in there [its reasonably new one] so the animals never seem as bad as some others in there. However there is another pet shop nearby that their shop is always really really hot and the animals look to be suffering with the heat yet the owners couldn't care less Mad

I walked past that pet shop on Monday to get my partners dog some water and the heat beaming through That window, I felt so sorry for the little guys! They're adorable too I just wanted to take them home. Surely the owner must know how hot it must get for them!

They should never have pets in a window for that reason and I hope they don't leave them there overnight in the window. We use to have a pet shop in Blackpool quite a famous one and they use to leave their rabbits and puppies and kittens in the window overnight and of course all the drunken yobs coming out the pubs and clubs would bang on the window and frighten the poor animals. In the end I think they were told to take the animals out of the window at night. Sadly they had a fire and the pet shop and most of the buildings burnt down killing all the animals it was really sad and upset a lot of local folk at the time.

He is a young lad about my age so he probably odes not and it is just a business to him- money , profit, glad I am not the only 1 who has witnessed this then. How are your buns doing Hun? what do they think of the Timothy hay?

Omg about that pet shop in Blackpool, my parents have moved back to Darwen from there 6 months ago, I am glad I did not witness this when we went over to visit. I hate pet shops like this, they should not be allowed to sell animals if they have them in the window like this, it does get so hot in the shop, I went in once, never again after witnessing this. The sun just beams in, I saw a rabbit yesterday as we drove past trying to get away from the sun as close to the back panel of the things has them in and it must have been dying of heat - poor thing, breaks my heart. Every time I hear something like this I feel as if my stomach has dropped out, this is beyond sick. It might be worth contacting the RSPCA, I am sure that what they are doing can be classed as cruelty. I wish I could bring them home too and hang draw and quarter those responsible!!! I agree with Thumper. Please let us know what happens love.

Humum wouldn't be able to pass that pet shop without going in to say something. It might just be ignorance and they might be more than happy to sort something out, you never know until you try.

If they don't want to know, the next step would be the local council and the RSPCA.

No point complaining without taking action Thumbs Up

PM us where it is, although Humum can't get over there until the weekend.

BugsBunny - I was going to apply for a job there but id of had to say something to him about those poor rabbits! It's awful.

Henry is fine, doing great, ringing up the vets for their injections and to get Henry neutered tomorrow! I'm worried about Daisy though she's lost weight so I'm going to mention it to the vets. Hope she's ok! They both enjoy the Timothy hay! I think they like to eat Meadow Hay more though Laughing

The one thing that they did which annoyed hudad royally was when they started to sell Meerkats. It wasn't until the Council and Trading Standards got involved that they stopped selling them.

Apart from that, buns are mixed with GP's and kept in fish tank type enclosures less than 2' square Mad Mad Mad

Wow that is even worse than this, at least these even though it is hot look well. As far as I can tell when I have been past in the car etc and that 1 time I called in, they seem to eat and drink etc and I do not want to report anybody unless I know the full details. They seem to sell the rabbits and Guinea pigs fast so maybe they are not in long but it does upset me when I see them naturally. I do not know enough to do anything unless I knew and had proof. Got to be very careful but saying that it is something that I do not like to see at all and I think any pet shop should not be allowed to window the animals for however long it is.,whether it be for a short or long period of time. I do not know about the night time though. Obviously on here I feel I can talk to the good HH gang and just get things out but if I do get enough evidence or see them all the time of course I would not want the buns and gp's to die. As far as I know my brother sometimes talks to him and he did not say he is ignorant or off hand or nasty  so I just do not know, I am not justifying it either. I think that pet shops should just be stopped if they cannot air con it and keep them away from the sun. I am not backing out of my concerns or making excuses but you have to be so careful with these things.I would not let any cruelty to animals go by without doing something if needed.

I think I saw some Meerkats advertise from there actually and thought it was strange.

Daisy&Henry - you apply for what you want, do not let me stop you getting a possible job, maybe it is not as bad as I think it is, but I do know what you mean. I would day something if I had to work there too.

Oh sorry to hear that Hun, let me know how they get on, I hope Daisy is okay and sending mega vibes for them both  Hugs Hugs Hugs Hugs
The vet will guide you about her weight and know what to do  they are excellent there. Is it Myerscough you went for in the end? they know what they are doing and will be in good hands. our Dougal had hurt his eye on something and had to be on some antibiotics and pain killers for a few weeks. He hated them but finally fond a good method to get them down him and they worked wonders. As far as I can tell it has gone and his eye looks really well, I just have to keep an eye out for swelling again though. But fingers crossed it is all good. They are good with him. I am getting him neutered at 6 months, as long as the hot weather has passed then a bit as do not want him stressed and over heated.

It breaks my heart to think of the poor animals stuck in those places :(the last two pet shops I've been to there's been a little hamster trying frantically to get out of the cage :(the ones in Leicester at least all seem to sell rubbish rabbit products as well and advertises the wrong products to people, I don't think I've ever ended up buying anything from one of those pet shops

BugsBunny - No my mum said she'd rather ring out local Town&Country but we don't know how they are with rabbits, so if we feel that they should know more we are going to Myerscough! If it was me paying, I'd more than happy go to myerscough as people have had experience! Just hope everything is fine with Daisy doo!

With vets it is very much a case of knowing which vet to ask for. My tip if there is no rabbit specialist is to ask for the large animal vet because rabbits have much more in common with horses and cows than they do with dogs and cats. And don't be afraid to say what you think or ask for them to look at something specific.

http://exoticpets.about.com/cs/rabbits/f/Rabbitfindvet.htm This may be useful to you.

I think this question is a good simple 1 - Ask if food has to be removed the night before surgery. The answer should be “no”. Rabbits should never be fasted. A clued up vet should know this but there are others on a better link I could not find it, but you get where I am coming from and I agree with Cheryl, she is way more experienced than me and is very good with her advice.

I was going to go with Town & Country in Blackburn too but ended uyp with Myerscough but I know how it is when it is not you paying and the parent , totally get that. There used to be a town and country in Darwen but they do not have it here now, it closed last year. They have been good with our dogs at Town and Country in the past and there is a really sweet female vet there who when we had to have 2 of our dogs put down with cancer within a week of one another she was so sweet with my mum she and dad she said. She let them go and say goodbye , even though they where gone and take Sam our black lab in to also and she sent them poems and stuff. I am not sure how they are for rabbits but like Cheryl said a large animal 1 is always a good choice if they are not rabbit savvy.

I will not buy from this one again either and that is awful, selling things that are not good for them, wrongly advertising is bad. You just want to go and free them all when you see them like that dont you? poor little angels.
