Foxglove - vibes please - ANOTHER UPDATE pg 2

Foxglove is in the vets today for a front incisor removal (they grew back - not sure if they are long enough to remove today though), a dental/burr on her molars and an x ray on her roots as she has had snuffles and i am worried her roots are growing into her sinuses/nasal canals. So big vibes please coz if her roots are bad she will have to be pts which I don't think i could cope with. Is making me cry at work just typing this.

Hi Jane - I don't know. I am not sure how long xrays take to come out ie if they are immediate or they are 'developed' and looked at later? They have told me that if they are elongated there is nothing they can do. We have discussed it before as they said bad roots often come hand in hand with bad teeth so her life expectancy might only be 2-3 years old because her roots might be doing bad things by then and she would have to be pts. I am just hoping it is not happening sooner ie now. As she has a deformed head/jaw anything could be going on I guess and it is funny how she has suddenley got snuffles. Who knows. I seriously hope not coz i will miss having something jumping on my head in bed at 3 in the morning.

Hi - Anna the vet has just called. Foxy has had a major burr on back teeth as low as they can get to the roots. They tried to remove her incisors again but they snapped at the root. The x-rays show that her roots are starting to grow into her sinuses and also growing down on the bottom jaw as well. They think maybe she had some sort of calcium deficiency as a baby hence the twisted jaw and bad teeth and also the snapping weak incisors.
They have sent the xrays to a specialist in London to see if there is anything more that can be done for her. She has had an injection for the nasal infection/snuffles and has to have another one on Thursday as they are hoping it is caused by bacteria and not her roots. She also has a course of Baytril. They also have some banana flavoured antibiotic that they use on children that we can try too if that doesn't work. In the meantime got to wait to hear if the specialist has any answers rather than being pts. I did ask Anna how painful it is at the moment and she said she isn't worried about that at the moment and also Foxy seems happy (was doing 100 mile an hour scatty sprints upstairs and downstairs upstairs and downstairs last night and eats 15 kilos of food a day so i agree). So not the answer i was hoping for but at least there is a bit of time and a glimmer of hope with the specialist.

So glad she's still with you and that there's hope. I hope the specialist is able to come up with some answers and can offer some treatment. She's such a beautiful girl.

Beautiful Foxglove. I am sorry you have not had the bestest of news but I am keeping my fingers crossed that some help is available.

Thanks for all your lovely messages says Foxy! Just been to vets and the specialist has said that if/when things get worse that sometimes removing 1 or 2 of the back back teeth can help so we are going to keep an eye on her and keep her teeth burred every 6 weeks (there is a correlation between teeth being long in the mouth and roots growing so the more room in the mouth the less the roots grow) and if things get bad he will see her for x-rays, surgery etc. He is at Strathmore Vets in Andover if anyone is wondering - John Chitty. She is also on more baytril and an injection for her snuffles which seems to be working - if not she is moving onto banana flavoured kids medicine they now use for bunnies!

Removing back teeth, I think is a major major op. I so hope it doesn't come to that.
