How long does hay keep in plastic bags for?

I am going to buy Dougal a huge 11.36kg bag of his western Timothy hay from the hay experts so it saves money on in the long run on buying the 4.5kg bags. I was just wondering as I do not know if they send them in the plastic bags or not, but if they do.How long does hay keep good for? our house is a hot house and I know a cool place is best to store it, any tips on best way to do this and is it best to cardboard box it rather than keeping it in the bags supplied?

Ah I see they send it in a box, is that okay to keep it in and is it best somewhere cool? just trying to thin where.

I used to buy a bale of hay when I had 7 rabbits and would split into bin bags and it would keep for about 3 months it took me to get through the lot and it was fine

He is a single bun so probably take a while so that sounds good. He has expensive taste so was not cheap but cheaper than buying it in smaller bags in the long run and we get more Kilos from it that way too. A cardboard box will be fine to keep it in, and yes, it's best in a cool place

The trouble with keeping it in plastic bags is that it sweats which can encourage harmful bacteria to grow on the hay.

Thanks for the tips, they send it in a box it says on the site so that is good.  

We keep ours in the bag it comes in and leave it open.  We also keep our house cool year around. It was only 100F here today!  I thank God for Air Conditioning!
