Re: Vibes for Jack please
Layla popped outside earlier so Humum took advantage of the opportunity to shut her out and give Jack an extra bowl of veg of which he ate quite a lot
She also found some really thick stalky grass at the top of the garden, and he quite enjoyed that too.

Re: Vibes for Jack please
Jack's quite bright today
Can we have some vibes for his dental to all go smoothly tomorrow, please, and for that to sort him out for a while at least?

Re: Vibes for Jack please
Humum phoned at half three and he was still in surgery but doing fine. She has to ring again about 6pm and hopefully go to fetch him home
She decided not to take Layla in with him so she has been home alone all day and now has a face like a wet weekend, the poor neglected little mite

Re: Vibes for Jack please
Jack's home
He is still very dopey so he's been given a quiet pen away from Layla. Humum is hoping he perks up a bit in the next couple of hours.
He was anaesthetised for nearly an hour in all and it cost £143 so Humum hopes that doesn't need doing too often...

Re: Vibes for Jack please
£143! How come it was so expensive and took so long?
Bruce's normally cost around £50.

Re: Vibes for Jack please
The vet nurse who did the discharge said that some rabbits tend do go deeply under the anaesthetic then come back out of it quickly, so he was up and down while they tried to keep him deeply enough under without being dangerous to him, although they did say when Humum happened to phone mid-op that he was 'stable' under the anaesthetic.
The bill is broken down as:
£81.60 anaesthetic
£37.56 rasp teeth
£15.10 post-op checkup
£9.17 course of baytril (10ml, 2ml per day for 5 days)
totalling £143.43
Humum thinks our usual vet wouldn't have wanted him back in for a post-op check for teeth, she would have trusted Humum to know if he was right or not (and if he's not right six days later it should be pretty noticeable ).
We're not quite sure why he is still on the Baytril, although the vet did give it to him for the stasis too and explained why at the time it didn't sink in 100%. They're going to keep him on the metaclopramide, loxicom and baytril for at least another couple of days to give him a chance to recover a bit more, just in case he's not 100% yet.
It really is noticeable at the moment that our vets are suffering from two vets being out on maternity leave and another just back from sick leave. They were really busy at a time that it's usually very quiet and Humum just does not have quite the 100% unshakeable confidence she had in them before. Although Tony is great (he spent 20 minutes with Jack on Saturday for a 10 minute appointment and never made the hu-parents feel rushed) he is obviously snowed under. She'll be glad when our Claire is back.

Re: Vibes for Jack please
That is a big anaesthetic bill. Bruce normally just has a light sedation, it is more than adequate and he recovers quickly. And how much took was rasped for that much? I think I paid that sort of bill when Bruce had his teeth xrayed as well. And we have never been given Baytril for his teeth/stasis issues.

Re: Vibes for Jack please
I'm glad he is home safe - how is he doing today?
Daisy's denials are normally £110 a time but I think vet care is very expensive in this area.

i'm so glad he's ok I think it's odd that different vets charge different prices I think the prices should be regulated so all charge the same
