Poor snowflake
She is really unhappy at the moment, she is having a really heavy moult, this is the worst I've seen her,I've just got her out and brushed and plucked her,so you can guess that went down well also how long will it last for roughly? Iam a little worried about her but she is eating and drinking fine,I also weighed her on the bathroom scales and she's about 2kg does this sound ok? She looks a little skinny to me

Re: Poor snowflake
Aw bless her
I wouldn't have thought bathroom scales would be accurate enough to weigh a little bun to be honest. Our vet does a free nurse clinic where a bun can have a general checkover, weight etc done for free - would it be worth seeing if your vet does and just get a second opinion on her?
Lots of us are moulting horribly at the moment, and it obviously did get Poppy down for a while although she has perked up again now.

Re: Poor snowflake
Thanks sparky,I did put her on but she was too light so it just said "error" so I weighed myself and then weighed myself again with her,I will get my kitchen scales out and try again and she's eating fenugreek ok too, maybe she is wanting the sympathy vote

Re: Poor snowflake
I agree, it is probably just the moult getting her down. Bruce seems really skinny at the moment with a good amount of his fur gone, but he will feel fatter again when his fur thickens up.

Re: Poor snowflake
Sadly there are loads and loads of heavily moulting bunnies at the moment, we have some, there are a lot of holiday buns staying with us with seriously bad moults and we have had phone calls for advice on moulting bunnies and it really does get a bunny down and depressed. The trouble is the more you get off the more there seems the next day and they day after and the day after that you wonder where it all comes from and just about everything is covered in it. It's like tumbleweed!
2kg seems ok to me for Snowflake.

Re: Poor snowflake
Thanks maysie.
How often do they have a heavy moult? Is it once every few years or different for every bun? Spike hasn't had a heavy moult and we've had them for 2 years and this is the first heavy moult for snowflake

It can depend if they live indoors or not and can also been down to the weather, we are having such changeable weather rabbits just don't know what's going on and of course we have gone from like cold and wet weather to very humid and hot and this is why rabbits are in heavy moult at the moment.
