Floppy is getting a wife

After thinking hard for a no of weeks I decided late last week that floppy needs a wife, for many reasons, company, warmth, someone to love & groom . Winter is going to be harsh this year to, I feel he would greatly benefit from having someone to snuggle into. Also during winter its harder to spend loads of time with them, which he loves. The twins dont seem to need a lot from us & charlie has days he doesnt want attention but floppy is always looking for love & snuggles. So we meet her on sunday. I have opted for a adopting from a rescue, fairly beloved rabbit care, my friend fosters for them, there is a for few reasons I felt adopting was better, 1 she will already be spayed so no need to wait weeks/months for her body to be ready, 2 we are helping to keep another bunny from going without a forever home, 3 there is support to help with bonding. Once some time has passed with them bonded, we may consider bonding the group (next summer) 3 males & 2 females, while they are being bonded away from home we can rebuild their village, making allowances for 2/3 seperate living area & runs incase its not fully successful, where we can block 1 off if needed.

Its settled, Floppette, or mr & mrs floppy 😀. Hopefully they wont need to go to waren for bonding, if they do then we could line the inside like seen on here, using the cladding, last time I tried to line over with boards but the boards started to go mouldy, had to pull it all back out 😢 wasting money & time. I kept the silver insulation, rolled it up stuck it in the shed.

Wooohoo floppette comes today, fingers crossed they can bond quickly at home. Hubby cant believe I have settled on floppette, he said I was just joking, well it has a ring to it. Second choice is lucy. Her name is penny which I am not keen on, plus I like to choose names myself.

Shes here, there in the pen, having a few scuffles but not to many, tried her in his house, he wasnt having it, so going to clean it out put fresh bedding etc in so more nutral try again later.

You brought a new rabbit home and tried to move her straight into Floppy's hutch without any proper bonding time on neutral territory?

I feel obligated to point out Lynn that this goes against all the 'good' bonding procedures that we normally promote Lynn.

It seems to be how fairly beloved have done in past, but their out in the playpen together again, he is relaxing slowly, Ive scrubbed his house out removed his smell, going to place her in the dogs crate inside the house, shes accepted him, he is taking little longer to relax, she keeps trying to cuddle into him, took few photos. They are now face to face lying just nudging each other on the nose every so often.

I agree with Cheryl, plus did Floppy get any choice over his new wife? It's often best to take the bun dating and let them choose.

Do you have somewhere to put her if they're not able to go in his house together tonight?

I agree with you, putting her in too soon isnt going to work, they fine now, but not left them alone, sitting with my cup of tea watching them.

She can go in the crate, adding things every 20 mins from floppys house, they have toys which she is really interested in, the arch, they have ate carrot together & hay. I choose her as she is alot like him. Hes not used to being groomed so gets bit skitsy when she tries to. Stay out here as till its dark. Providing doesnt rain.

Crate is ready for later, takes up half the hut but it will kerp them from hurting each other when were unable to watch them.

That pose is them trying to establish dominance. Neither one is giving way at the moment.

They are gorgeous bunnies hun.

The one that initiates the grooming will probably be the boss. You will quite often see rabbits that are bonding almost have a fight where they try and push their heads under the other trying to be the most subservient. They are looking to the other to take charge of the situation, even if that leads to chasing etc. Nose to nose like that is quite a wary pose.

Smokey & rosey do it often, then chase each other. Watching these 2, floppette tried to hump him, checked deffo female, confused, will take a while to settle, the twins done the very same after they were reintroduced after spaying. Rosey is clearly the boss in that relationship. Put them to bed in half an hour, seperate but still close, get used to each others smell.

4 hours & no blood spilled or fur pulling is good tho, so day 1 is ok. Day 2 be doing same, play pen in middle of garden. Then open the crate towards end of the week let them move about together.

I hope it is going ok. I agree with Cheryl that the nose to nose is a dominance challenge. Keep an eye on them Hun.

There off to bed, separate beds 😛 in same room, for her safety & his. Get them back in the pen tomorrow once kids go to school.
