I need to share this with someone!
Basically I have no one who will understand what a big achievement for me this is, so I thought I'd share here.
My big ol' bunny Pumpkin has no interest in being petted or handled in all the time we've had him. Just approaching him usually makes him move away. I have never been able to carry him, hold him or pet him, and as he was my first bunny this was a huge disappointment, but I still loved him anyway.
I got another bunny for cuddling purposes, but Pumpkin was always my boy.
Anyway, today for the first time in a long time, after setting up a new little house in the bunny room, as Pumpkin climbed on top to survey his kingdom, I thought 'hmm. Why not?' And I gave picking him up a try.
He let me! Not only that, but he let me pick him up again and again, and because it was a novelty, I even carried him around the room! He didn't kick, bite or struggle (which he used to if I even put my hands near his body).
I really don't know why this suddenly worked, maybe he just doesn't like being picked up from the ground or handled on the ground? I'm sure I must have tried this on the sofa though, and I didn't have any luck then.
Whatever the reason, I'm so happy!
Who knows, maybe he was just grateful that I got him a new house? I gave him some treats and now we are both happy

I'm SO happy for you! It's such a warm feeling when a hands off bun suddenly allows contact. When Rory finally let me touch him I was ecstatic. Still get that way every time he hops up on the bed to get some noms...He's still totally nom motivated but he lets me pet and groom him...except for his nails.

I totally get this feeling. The first time Mojo let me give him a stroke and a nose rub was the most amazing feeling. I still remember how very, very happy I was
I'm so glad you're making similar progress with Pumpkin - it's so rewarding

that's great news! It can sometimes take years to gain a rabbits trust. Its great that you gave him the time and love needed to develop your bond

Lovely to hear this, my rescue is same, shes learning were save tho, lets us pet now, she only allows my 13 year old to lift her, very confusing, she must have a magic touch. Maybe it was the new thing you added wasnt his space yet so he didnt fight, just guessing tho. Xx
