First snow of the year Empty First snow of the year

Post by NickieM Wed Nov 20, 2013 7:39 pm

Up here we have had the first tiny fall of crunchy snow. It was really the result of lots of hail showers but everywhere was white the next day and it was very icy.

I was a bit worried about Sasha, who last year basked in the warmth indoors and this year is roughing it outdoors. I have got a pen ready for her in an unheated room so if things get very unpleasant, I can whip her indoors. However, this requires a degree of compliance from her and that is where the problems start! We had a dry run last night as it was forecast to be pretty horrible last night, but when the towel went over her she struggled like a demon and bit me! Once released she went off flicking her feet and stamping. Round One to Sasha I think!!! Laughing Laughing

I will leave her for a while before trying again, but she seems to be really liking outside. She has tons of hay in her hutch living room and she has burrowed into the hay and made a lovely cosy bed for herself. Such a clever girl. Laughing Laughing Love

We had our fist yesterday. I made my breakfast and returned to the kitchen 10 minutes later to find the estate had turned white. It has hailed on and off ever since but it hasn't really settled again since yesterday. I was driving over the moors today and it was dry then suddenly hailing so hard you couldn't see, then dry, then hail. It was quite frightening.

Yikes, the white stuff is getting nearer!  I might be being a bit OCD but having listened to all the stories of this year being really harsh for snow, I have started to buy  extra hay and nugs at weekends in case I can't get if it gets really bad and the buns run out No

Nothing where we are in Liskeard either, but it would be nice just to have a little at Christmas.

Here, part of the way around the world we have had a bit of icing.  Not too bad.  We may have more.  Weather is supposed to be horrendous here in the middle of the USA this winter as well.

I wouldn't worry about all the 'It's going to be the worst winter since 1947' stories.  The Daily Express reports this every year!  Laughing

The longest that they can forecast with any accuracy is about four weeks.  Anything else is a guess based on past years' data.  It has annoyed the Met Office so much that they have actually put out a press release saying not to believe what you read in the papers.
