Rebonding? U/D
Is it possible for rabbits who have lived their whole lives together (albeit short lives) to suddenly hate each other and need rebonding?
Mr B got up this morning to find a carpet of fur on the floor, Dom has been attacking the others (mainly Hazel) with fury! He is fine in himself, not aggressive towards us, will happily sit for cuddles but as soon as he is put back he dives straight on her. I have taken Hay to the vets as she has (among other injuries) a cut and swollen eyelid/eye. She is fine, the others are fine. Dom is free in the pondok with the others in their pen so they can all see and smell each other but it is bizarre. As soon as he is within reach he jsut jumps on Hazel!
Any ideas? I am a little worried. Dom, Hazel and Stu are neutered, Bob is not but has no plums yet and is not particularly randy.
Thanks in advance Hoppers!

Hmmmmmm
I wonder if Hazel tried to be assertive with Dom and refused to back down.
So now Dom is being ultra aggressive to establish himself as top Bun
What was the order within the hierarchy before the aggro kicked off ?
Has Hazel's lump gone down?
Sometimes a Bun can smell a problem in another Bun and will become aggressive towards them
Could you have two pairs of Buns rather than a group of 4 ?

Re: Rebonding? U/D
The lump has all but disappeared. I think the remaining lump is just the stitches under the wound.
Before the hierarchy was pretty much equal in terms of Hazel and Dom, with Stu and then Bob. I am thinking it might have caused a problem as Bob has not been done (too young) so he is now technically 'top dog'. He doesn't act it but he occasionally humps the others. I am thinking maybe Dom got protective over Hazel and had a go at her for cheating?
I don't know.
He has been perfectly happy in the room alone today. I have anti-inflammatory drops for Ha's eye (she is a star at taking them ) and there have been no further scuffles. I might try reintroducing Dom tonight at dinner and see if they are distracted enough by food not to notice each other.
As for a 2x2 situation, I don't see how it would work as we only have the one room and one run and one catflap... I am just hoping he will rebond. It's all very peculiar

Oh no - how horrid.
Our trio's bond broke down when Hollie and Rosie had to be spayed separately. We tried to re-bond on neutral territory but the girls were not for playing ball and Herbie was caught in the middle. It then got harder to manage as Herbie seems to suffer from referred agression and was attacking Hollie because he couldn't get to Rosie. That's when BJ came along for Rosie and they moved outdoors. The whole thing was horribly stressful so I do feel for you.

Re: Rebonding? U/D
I have tried reintroducing Dom and all was fine for about 5 minutes. He was sat with Hazel but then all of a sudden they both went for each other.
It was odd, neither one really started it but I have had to move Dom back to the whole room. I don't understand it

Re: Rebonding? U/D
Personally I'd leave it a good few weeks before trying again.
The more they fight the less likely it'll be you'll get them all rebonded.
Plus with Hazel already being injured she will get very stressed and may 'internalise' it consequently upsetting her guts.
Gaaaaaaaah Bunnies !!

Re: Rebonding? U/D
Thanks Jane, I will leave them be for now then. Is it ok to have them in close proximity or should I move Dom to another room. As it stands they only have weldmesh separating them but none of them are interested in the other, no 'noses through the bars' or anything.
Why on earth have they started acting this way all of a sudden?!

Bizarre bunnies Sometimes Hollie and Herbie go for each other. It is very strange as there is no obvious trigger but it is tho they are having a mental superiority battle, then one senses the other is about to attack, leaps in the air in defence and there is a minor skirmish. Thankfully (touch wood) they do settle down again but it is very peculiar.
If the bunnies are fine separated by wire, I would be tempted to leave them be, but I am not a bonding expert.
Am sending loads of lovey dovey vibes for them, the little tinkers.

Re: Rebonding? U/D
well these two face off, do the 'running circles round each other' thing then start leaping about, tufts flying everywhere.
poor Hazel has 6 or 7 bald patches now (complete with wounds ) and one sore eye...

Re: Rebonding? U/D
Just to let you all know I put Dom back with the others tentatively a couple of nights ago and we are back to business as usual. I don't know what the hell was going on (in retrospect it might have been ants?) but he has been absolutely fine ever since.

Re: Rebonding? U/D
it's really odd! he was absolutely miserable on his own and sat under the table sulking, refused to come out for food etc (he must have snuck out during the night ) so I let him back in.
I don't get it at all but maybe it was something along the lines of ants. Who knows!
Fingers crossed for bunny harmony!

Re: Rebonding? U/D
So glad all is now back to normal.
Perhaps some time in the 'sin bin' knocked some sense into Dom.
