Bargain!!
Just found a local horse shop that sells bales of hay!! It cost me £4.00 and I would say has the equivalent of the 10 small bags I used to buy from Dust Free Hay.co.uk at £40.00!!!!
Apart from the fact I have to get it, and try and squeeze it into my tiny Peugeot, and then through the house out into the garden... which is all a bit of a struggle.... I am well impressed!! I am using my council wheelie bin that is meant for garden waste as a storage bin (and it wouldnt all fit in that)!
My car inside now looks like a field... I had hay in my bra too!!!!
I just hope the bunnies like it. It seems a lot softer than the dust free hay.... I would think it will be nicer to snuggle into though. I have seen them eat it so I am hoping it will be ok for them.

Re: Bargain!!
Oh yea just saw your reply!!
Its a horse beding (obvs from the horse shop), its wood chips. I use it for Berts litter tray and the guinea pig hutch. It smells lovely and soaks up all the wee!

Re: Bargain!!
So can I ask, if you knew you could buy bales of hay there, where do you get your hay from locally as I have been hunting for a cheaper source of hay for AGES!!

Re: Bargain!!
Well my lot really like the bags of stuff from the garden centre but i dont like shopping there because of the animals and its quite expensive.
I only saw the bales of hay last week when i went to buy the Easibed. I hadnt seen them before and i have been going there for a few months. I planned to go up there on Monday when my other stuff runs out.

Re: Bargain!!
When I went there yesterday I got the last bale... the man told me they have hay deliveries on Mondays and Thursdays - just so you know...
They do Allen and Page pellets too, but huge bags... my two arnt on that brand but just in case yours are!
Elm Court is where I got Twinkle from.... I was in there the other day and they had some cute white baby bunnies.... its so tempting isnt it!

Re: Bargain!!
Well i changed Bert onto A&P because i realsied you could get big bags from there and it is so much cheaper than SS!
I bought my firt two piggies from there before i knew about rescues. They once had a rabbit in which wasnt well at all and it had a little sign saying 'i have hayfever'. I was so tempted because i felt sorry for him.
I also bought a huge bale of Readigrass from there, think it was about £10 but has lasted ages, even though the piggies eat it like its going out of fashion!

Re: Bargain!!
Readigrass at the garden centre or the horse shop... getting confused!!!!
And do you use all the A&P Pellets in such a large bag before it goes off? Thats why I wont change over.....
Pickle is on SS and Twinkle is on Oxbow at the mo!

Re: Bargain!!
Sorry from the horse place!
Well i have just looked and its out of date! So in answer to your question, no!
I have it in airtight containers though so i am sure it will be fine for a little while longer.
I was considering taking half the bag up to the RSPCA, i think its £8 for a sack so miles cheaper than SS!

Re: Bargain!!
I dont know whether its worth me swapping again... Pickle loves SS. Oxbow seems to suit Twinkle's tummy..... got so much food here to use up!!
We could halve a bag if I could swap mine over....

Yep i would be happy to halve a bag. Bert has never had tummy trouble and changed over really easily. And now he loves it!

Re: Bargain!!
Wee tip! When you go for your bale of hay, take a single duvet cover to put it in before you put it in the car, saves getting hay all over the place. We took our car to a valet service and they asked if we kept cows in it! Cheeky beggers!
Re: Bargain!!
I was gonna place the hay into some tarpaulin, but forgot to take the tarpaulin
