My furry friends...
Thought I would introduce my various furry friends.
We recently started fostering rabbits for a local rescue. Our first charges were Gingernut (later to be referred to as 'Nutty' as she was hilariously bonkers!) and Fudge. We looked after this sweet pair until they were old enough to be neutered and go off to their new home, and no surprises, they got a new home lined up very quickly. They are a delightful pair, so full of energy and they put on some spectacular binkying displays.
Next we got two gorgeous lops called Sam and Alice who had been in the rescue for a while. They are the most adorable girls, so laid back and friendly. They've now found a lovely new home too which is great news after months of waiting, so they will be leaving us soon - I shall really miss them, they're just soooo lovely!
And my permanent residents are two guinea pigs called Josh and Cadders (short for Cadbury - my daughter named him) who came from the rescue we're now fostering for (my son entered them for Pet of the Day which are the only pics I have to hand - much excitement from him when they made it on!). They're lots of fun and regularly drown out the tv with their wheeking. Very glad they seem to be coming out the other end of their 'teenage' years now as there might be a bit less bum waggling and endless chasing and mounting!

They are just adorable Greenbean love, how I would like to kiss those gorgeous little faces. We had a gp called Cadbury which was also turned into Cadders.

Re: My furry friends...
Oh they are, and I spoke too soon about them coming out of their teenage years!
Sam and Alice went off to their lovely new home a couple of weeks ago and we got our new guests, Percy and Sophie. These guys (especially Percy) were quite overweight when they went into the rescue, but are shaping up marvellously on the right diet and with some more exercise - we had to work quite hard to get them moving at first as they were quite lazy and despondent, but they have really come out of themselves and it's great to see them hopping about for no apparent reason and being playful. They're both really sweet natured and Percy loves snuggling down for a good groom.

Re: My furry friends...
Oooh I haven't updated for a while. Percy and Sophie went off to a lovely new home (hooray!) and our next little charges were Benny and Jackson, two gorgeous little babies who were part of a group of 10 baby buns sadly found abandoned in a cardboard box on a back street on a hot day (looked like 2 litters from the same mum). Thank goodness someone discovered them in time, it's just horrible to think someone would do that, especially when there are rescues that would take them in. Benny and Jackson were absolutely adorable - so funny and friendly, and would bound about excitedly every time someone moved or spoke. They went back to be neutered and will be going off to lovely new homes with their new wives.
And now we have two adorable girls called Miriam and Lorna. It looks like someone set them loose as they were found living wild on a playing field. Luckily they were caught by some lovely people before they came to any harm and after a few weeks with us growing a bit bigger ready for their ops, they'll be neutered and going off to the fab new home they have lined up. They have such a close bond which is lovely to see.
Wonder who will be next and if they'll have the dark eyeshadow look?! I know they'll be getting a box of hay to play in, whoever they are...

Re: My furry friends...
I wish we had the capacity for more really - after seeing how many rabbits the rescue help each week and there are always so many more on the waiting list.
The one with the beauty spot is Miriam (Mars for short, according to my daughter). She's such a pretty thing isn't she.

Re: My furry friends...
My son was proposing a plan earlier whereby we all (four of us) move in to one bedroom and give all the other rooms in the house over to guinea pigs and rabbits - apparently we don't even need a bathroom, we can make do with the downstairs loo and use the garden hose for washing?!

Re: My furry friends...
It's an interesting idea, for sure! I would love to have house rabbits, but we either need to get a bigger house or wait for the kids to move out. The pigs have already taken over the living room and there's not enough space for a rabbit retreat zone in any of the other rooms.
Both the kids are very good with the animals, Sixer - very caring and helpful. But they're much better at giving food and attention than doing things like cleaning out hutches and cages - I ask them if they want to help clean the animals out and they're all 'No thanks, we like putting things in better than taking stuff out'!

Re: My furry friends...
Haven't properly introduced our current boarders form Camp Nibble yet, the delightful Morag and Nelson.
Morag is so friendly and loves to be the centre of attention - in the second picture my daughter was grooming her, then stopped to speak to her brother (who was supposed to be raking leaves but seemed to spend a lot of time doing anything but raking leaves...) and straight away she was up trying to nudge the brush back to work keeping her beautiful!
Nelson is so sweet and gorgeous - much shyer of people than Morag but (with help from some great advice on here) he's really learned to trust us which is so lovely. I'm even invited to give him a good groom every now and then which seemed very unlikely at the start! He's a bit hen pecked by Morag, but every now and then he stands up for himself and gives her a shock! They're generally very close and spend a lot of time cuddled up together grooming, so I don't think he has too rough a deal!
Praying to the hay gods!
Apparently adoptions, especially of older buns, are much slower over winter so this pair will most likely be with us until spring. We've cleared out the kids' playhouse and put lino down so they can move in there if we get really foul weather. But after all my work insulating and weatherproofing their hutch, they're still spending a lot of time outside in the run (which is attached via a catflap) - it's reassuring to have a back up though.
