A quick update from me
Hi guys, sorry I've been a bit MIA recently, I've obviously had a lot going on with Willow and Mo and still feeling under the weather.
I've been doing a lot of thinking and watching recently and after having observed Willow I have decided that I am not going to go ahead with putting her to sleep right now. The peeing thing which I first thought was medical, is now appearing more and more territorial every day. She will never go a day without leaving one or two puddles but again she has drastically improved over the past few days. It seems to go in cycles and I *think* it's around every 4-6 weeks she'll have a bad bout. I am going to start keeping a diary as Sparky suggested so I can be sure, but I am pretty sure if it was medical surely she wouldn't have these bouts of improvement? Surely she wouldn't be able to control it and she'd only be getting worse?
Anyway, she is still so happy - a huge appetite, a massive personality as always. I was watching her binky around the garden last night and it just hit me that it would be so wrong to put her down at the moment. It is not her time.
I know she is at risk for Flystrike with the excess pee but I try and keep their room very clean and am going to take all of the preventative measures I can over the summer to keep the flies out and the buns protected.
So, I am going to ask Chloe if she would still be able to take Mojo when the time comes. I really hope she can. It could be weeks or months that Willow has left with us, but I know in my heart it is not time for her to go yet. When she is obviously suffering as opposed to at risk, that will be when I go ahead with it. I just realised that I was uncomfortable with my decision after thinking about it which meant I couldn't have been doing the right thing.
As for me, my blood test results came back. I have high levels of ESR. The doctor said this could be inflammation from being previously ill, but it could also indicate anemia, rheumatoid arthritis (which runs in my family, I was tested when I was little) and other auto-immune disorders. I have to go back at the end of next month for another test to see if the levels have dropped.
Anyway, sorry for the mahoosive post but I hope you guys are happy to know that Willow will be with us for a little longer yet. I can't say how long it'll be, but hopefully my predictions are correct and it is just hormonal. As long as she has a quality to her life and is happy, she won't be going anywhere.
Have missed you all and I'm now off to catch up on the latest HH going's-on

Thank you Sixer, me too
I am hoping it is just inflammation from previous illness but if not my second choice would be anemia I guess

Great news for Willow
The diary thing is a good idea. I've done this with my migraine head and the things I've managed to work out from it would surprise you!
Hope you feel better soon

Re: A quick update from me
Yes Thumper2001, I really think it will help. At the very least it will give me an idea as to if there is any pattern to the peeing getting worse which would suggest hormones/territorial behaviour as opposed to health issues.
Thank you

Re: A quick update from me
I'm thrilled that Willow is doing so well! I know how much you love her. Hopefully you will find a pattern to her behavior and that can give you some peace about her urine leakage problem.
I hope that they determine what your problems are. Uncertainty itself is distressing on top of the cause. I hope that whatever it is that it isn't serious and that they can help you.

Re: A quick update from me
I'm glad it's better news for Willow and she seems well
If your biggest worry at the moment is flystrike, you can get her treated with Rearguard. It's what Theo has and, unlike all the other anti-fly sprays, it actually stops any eggs from developing into maggots. Properly applied, it absolutely guarantees the bun won't get flystrike for ten weeks. It's not cheap, our vet charges about £35 to supply and apply. You can get it online cheaper (£19.70 from Viovet) but
if you apply it yourself make sure you work it in well right from the end of the tail to halfway up the belly and back. It takes about 20 minutes at the vet for Theo to be properly covered. Then Humum has to entertain him all evening to stop him from licking at it

Re: A quick update from me
Thank you guys
Sparky, I have been considering getting her done with Rearguard at the vets. It's definitely seeming like a good idea. I'm just wondering whether to get them both treated. There will always be pee on the floor but I feel Wills is probably more at risk as she is sometimes wet around her bum/tail area whereas Mr Mo isn't. Hmm, decisions...

Re: A quick update from me
TBH, there's probably enough in one bottle to do both*
Our vet nurse dumps the stupid applicator and works it in with gloved hands
*Depending on the size of Willow's bottom

Re: A quick update from me
Ooh, that would be good. Willow's behind is fairly large, but Mr Mo's is teeny tiny so hopefully there'd be enough left over for him too
I will have to give my vet a ring and enquire about prices and whatnot...
