Rabbits ,policemen ,and radio 2
Have been a lurker for a long while , but I heard something on radio 2 this morning that I think needs addressing. The comments were made in fun, but it reinforces the view of rabbits as fluffy , cuddly and a suitable pet for children. Chris Evans suggested that policemen carry furry fluffy things like rabbits so that children will like policemen more. This is what I emailed the show,
"I know it was said in fun but please do not promote the idea of rabbits being fluffy cuddly and a suitable pet for children. There are over 30,000 rabbits in rescues due to this misconception .They are the third most popular pet, but the most neglected. They are usually bought on a whim put in a hutch and ignored. The RWAF have been running a campaign for many years.. A hutch is not enough. They need lots of space to have a happy life . Rabbits live 10-12 years if well cared for, much less when neglected."
Maybe a few more emails from the bunny world to the radio 2 team would do some good in raising awareness of rabbits.

Hi There
Welcome to Happy hoppers :-)
The BBC, I'm afraid I feel have a long history for having little or no regard for Rabbit welfare. From the ill conceived "Burrowers" series to portraying buns in tiny hutches in TV programmes.
I will of course drop them an email.

Welcome! To HH hop around and yes public is mislead by many whether they are tv stations, pet shops, .....
I saw parts of a good one where they explained bonding and other issues. Not sure which channel it was though.
