Would it be murder if ...
... I was to wring Henry's neck?
Today something quite miraculous happened. I was given approx. a half tonne of coal by my landlord. He has had a wood burning stove for a number of years now and when he got it he had his men clear the coal out of his coal house into the garage, today he wanted his garage cleared out and decided that the only tenant on his estate without central heating might just like to have the coal.
With coal around £300 a tonne I didn't say no to a half tonne freebie.
It was brought over in the forklift bucket and dumped in the wood near my boundary. Of course I filled up a couple of scuttles to try it out.
I stoked up both fires and retired to the sitting room where I proceeded to die in my chair.
I was woken by a clatter from the dining room and fearing something awful had befallen his nibs I dragged myself through to check things out.
Henry had somehow managed to tip over the scuttle and there was coal strewn all over. One big lump had knocked into his water bowl and the contents had mixed with coal dust to create a mucky sludge on my lovely fawn coloured hearth rug.
I swear, I'll hang for that rabbit!

Sorry, I shouldn't laugh but I am impressed with the skill involved in getting a piece of coal into the water bowl. I hope the rug cleans up OK.

He knocked the scuttle over and the coal spilled out, his drink bowl was next door to the scuttle.
I've got the rug clean now, it's drying in front of the sitting room fire, Henry is shut out of that room.
I'm beginning to think that rabbit is a hopping disaster.

I'm sorry, we shouldn't laugh - but it's funny when you're reading about it, not so funny when you're on the receiving end though, eh?

Re: Would it be murder if ...
I think it's just that he so damned nosey. He has to be into everything. Today I was watering the house plants, the phone rang and I went to answer it setting the mini watering can down on the floor (not wanting to leave a wet ring mark on my sideboard).
It was a dratted cold call for oven cleaning of all things, my answer had hardly cooled on the air before Henry rushed into the room like his scut was on fire. Now I've had him a little less than three months but I've developed a sixth sense where him and trouble is concerned. It didn't fail me ... he had turned over the watering can and soaked the carpet.
Rabbits like him should come with a health warning!

It's not that he's a bad bun, he's not. He doesn't chew things or dig and he's very affectionate. He's just so darned nosey! He has to check out everything ... in detail! A passing sniff is never enough, he has to investigate every nook and cranny and then double check it. All this curiosity coupled with his super confidence leads to trouble! Like right now he's checking out the door curtain on the front door ... he's already been tangled up in it once, he's bound to pull it down one day soon.

That's a daily game now Judy. He loves rootling in the kindling before I lay the fire. I don't mind that ... it's dry litter, easy to clean up. It's his current penchant for water that is annoying.

He sounds very similar to Mr Snuffles, if there was mischief about he would find it.

Re: Would it be murder if ...
Oh yes, Henry could find mischief in a blackout! Today I had a delivery of two sacks of wild bird mix to keep the ravening mass of wild birds from breaking and entering my larder. I can JUST manage to carry one of these sacks from the front door through to the utility room and I had battled my way through with bag one and was turning to go for bag two when there came noises from the other room.
Little swine ... he had to stick his beak in, and he'd ripped a couple of holes in the plastic sack. There was grain spilling all over. So before I could move it I had to get a couple of plastic boxes and empty the mix out. I would have left a lovely trail if I'd tried carrying the sack.
This time, before fetching the boxes I seized the miscreant and fastened him in his crate. He DID NOT like that!

Re: Would it be murder if ...
Well, he must be planning something really BIG because he's been very good today as well.
He spent the morning (from 9-15 to almost 11-00) eating hay and napping in his litter tray.
Then he had a game with his yogurt pot before moving to the hearth rug in the sitting room to practice his snoring .... he's getting quite good at snoring.
He scoffed his greens at 1-00pm then returned to the hearth rug until it was toast time at 4-30pm. This evening he's been alternating between racing full pelt over his "race track" and eating more hay. He's currently practicing his snoring again!

Well, whatever it is he's planning he's keeping his cards close to his chest, he's been really good today. Mummy's Little Helper in fact as I've been feeling a bit more like and couldn't stand looking at the state the sitting room had got into. I spent the day doing a clean through, taking it slow and easy with plenty of breaks for nose rubs and ear tickles. Henry seemed to approve of everything I did and his only complaint was when I was nearly an hour late with his toast due to polishing brasses.
He's in for a shock next week!
