Matted Fur Empty Matted Fur

My new rescue bun has come to me with matted fur all over her rear end Sad Anybody experienced with this? how do I get the matts off or detangled? I am a little nervous of her as she has bitten me once so any tips at keeping fingers intact would be helpful too Laughing

Err, how close are they to the skin? My normal routine is to trance and snip but if they are very close to the skin and too matted to comb out then I would recommend asking the vet to shave her for you instead, especially if you are nervous of her as that will make it harder for both of you.

Thanks Sooz, she has been to the vets for her myxi jab this morning, so got the vet to shave her bottom Embarassed They are mostly gone, but one or two bits left.... is a comb or brush better for getting the remainder of her fur looking nice?

Assuming she is the lionhead type bun in your avatar I would say a wide toothed comb would work best on her fur....brushes can make matts and tangles tighter and also tend to make longer fur static!

Ooops Laughing
She dosn't look like the type to get matted fur! A comb would still be best for dealing with tangles but a wire brush can help with general grooming.

Thanks for replying! She was in rescue and she is fiveish months old so dont know why she is so matted either... her fur is quite fine and fluffy like in texture - maybe she had a small moult and it never got brushed away so stayed and tangled in her fur? I have bought a metal grooming comb which is designed for tangles etc so will try and have a go with that later...
