Lotta has a check-up tonight re: incisors removed
Hi girls,
Lotta has been fine since having her incisors removed. Took her back on Friday and they were really pleased with her. Have to take her back tonight just to make sure she is healing but going by how she is I would say she is fine.
Both girls have decided they won't eat either the Timothy Hay or Readigrass (or whatever it's called). What do you do in a situation like that ? I put it out for them and it can stay there for days untouched ?
Thanks everyone

Re: Lotta has a check-up tonight re: incisors removed
Glad to hear she is healing well.
How many pellets do they get each day? Often buns will choose to fill up on pelleted feed rather than hay/grass if enough is available so it may be necessary to cut down the pellets in order to force them to eat more roughage.
You could try ordering a selection pack of hay from The Hay Experts and see if there is one that tickles their fancy.

The vet was very pleased with how she is healing and she doesn' thave to go back. She told me about how some rabbits regrow their teeth but she said she was very happy with the job she did so doesn't think it would be a problem.
Sooz: I normally just fill their bowl up - is this wrong ?

Re: Lotta has a check-up tonight re: incisors removed
How old are they? Generally rabbits should have a VERY limited supply of pellets unless they are elderly or poorly.
Some people recommend feeding juniors adlib but personally I find this sets them up for poor hay eating habits in later life. My bunnies all have a small handful each once a day with adlib hay and a huge bowl of greens in the evening....the two exceptions are Juno who is not growing properly and Lexie who is underweight.

Re: Lotta has a check-up tonight re: incisors removed
I would say at three months old to give them one large handful each per day but divide it into two meals, so they share a handful morning and evening and then cut the supply down once they reach around 6 months old to one handful each per day.
As it's winter you don't want to drastically cut there food intake too much because they will need to start storing up fat for the colder months.
