Our new furniture has arrived!

I know this is a bit of a sad topic to start but we have been waiting for this furniture since July. You might remember me asking how the heck you design a dining room table from scratch? Well we did it.

There is this little wood shop full of Indonesian furniture and stuff from Bali. It is amazing. Anyway we have bought a few bits from there ('scuse the mess, cat litter and vare light bulb - I broke the glass lampshade and have yet to find another ):





Including this gorgeous shelf unit (which is bloody heavy I might add!) that we couldn't resist.


I just loved the fact that it was simple but a little quirky with the curves (the Bruneians are really into ornate carvings etc. Not my thing at all)


So we decided to design the table and bed around it (people think we're a bit odd when we say we based our table and bed design on some shelves ). Here they are. Forgive the masses of photos but we are just so chuffed with them. It was supposed to be delivered August 26th and they have fobbed us off and changed the dates SIX times. This place is just awful at delivering stuff! So anyway it's finally here. 6 weeks late.

The table - 2 metres long 8 seater (just) with cushions to come:

Oh and by the way the guys are on their way to bring us the mattress as I type - it was all too much to fit in one van

I don't know how we will fit any of it in a UK quarter!!!

The best bit? All in all it cost us $2,700 for the lot (about 1,000 GBP) all to our own design etc made from teak and all flat packable!

It wouldn't be so good having all that wood here - Bell loves chewing on doors, bed headboard and end of the bed, anything she can get her teeth into

It is starting to feel a lot more like home. Although we';ve been having some kitten dilemmas just now - they have scaled our carefully constructed cardboard defenses so we have had to do some serious upgrading!

All I need really are some sort of canopy and curtains for the bed. Oh, and for the seat cushions to be delivered of course!

That is just lovely Helen. Can you begin to imagine how much bespoke hardwood furniture would cost in the UK!! You would be looking at many thousands for the amount you have got. It will be a lovely reminder when you are back in the UK. It looks so gorgeous.

The mattress (finally) arrived and is suprisingly comfy for a cheapo one (it was about 120 quid and I know they can get very pricey!). I just need to find a table runner big enough to not look swamped by that beat of a table!

Don't they do beautiful textiles out in that part of the world too? You are going to be coming back to the UK with so much stuff, you'd better hope you get a big quarter!
