Poppy's eating habits?
Hiya, I have started to be a bit worried about Poppy, she goes through phases where she doesn't eat? It's not staisis as she'll start eating the next day. But she looses interest in food, goes all quite and moody for about 9 hours or so. She also went off SS for a while and would only eat Excel lite, she's back on now.
I have had her teeth checked by the vet and he said he can't see any problems.
She often does it if we have been out for the day or when we go away for the weekend always worries my parents!
So do you think Poppy is just a sensitive soul and any change in routine upsets her or could there be an underlying medical condition? She eats loads of hay and has never had any problems apart from this?
I am really worried as I am supposed to be going to Canada for two weeks later in the year, I am dreading it already as I am so worried about leaving them

Re: Poppy's eating habits?
It definately sounds to me as though you have a sensitive bun on your hands. I remember you mentioning this before. She obviously finds any change stressful and mummy not being there is included.... hmm what to do. Where the heck are Jane and Sooz when you need em!
Re: Poppy's eating habits?
Yeah she's never been as eager for food as the other two, she always want a fuss before she eats She seems to love people much more than the other buns

Re: Poppy's eating habits?
Oh bless her heart what a sweetie! Pics please! I hate when they are like this though as they make you feel so guilty for leaving them
Re: Poppy's eating habits?
Exactly! She just looks at me with her big brown eyes and I feel guilty for even considering going away
Will put a pic in the pictures section, I need some new ones! I'm going to get MissySJ to take some

Re: Poppy's eating habits?
It's quite possible that she is upset by changes in routine, I have heard of rabbit's becoming stressed when their environment changes (furniture moved etc) and this can lead to them appearing off colour.
Of course the obvious first thing to rule out would be any teeth issue's or area's which may be causing her pain. Does she still defecate during these episodes?

I haven't really noticed but I don't think so, first couple of times I though she was going into stasis, was about to phone the vet when she snapped out of it. When she gets over it it's a really sudden change, she just gets up, hops around a bit and starts eating she looks different as well, like the sparkle goes out her eyes.

Re: Poppy's eating habits?
Does she seem phased out? Like she's not quite all there? Does this only happen when you have been away for a while?
Re: Poppy's eating habits?
She just seems really quiet and inactive, like she doesn't really realise whats going on. No, maybe about half the times we will have been out all day, there doesn't seem to be a pattern, except it's usually in the evenings.

Re: Poppy's eating habits?
I think your safest course of action would be a check-up with your vet and get them to give her a thorough examination. That will probably rule out several obvious causes and they may have some suggestions from similar cases they have dealt with.
Re: Poppy's eating habits?
Yeah I have spoken to the vet but he couldn't find any problems As I said she is fine most of the time, she just gets these phases every month or so. I was considering taking her to the vets last time to show him what she's like but as I knew she'd snap out of it I didn't want to stress her out more.

Re: Poppy's eating habits?
I think I'd take her in during an episode to get her checked over, it may be that there is something you can give her to get the episode over more quickly.
