And finally ...
after two years, two freeby discos and a bottle of whisky, my garden arch has been finished:
I love it!!! :luv:

Re: And finally ...
Were you not scared that after drinking all that whisky, it would be wonky!
It is lovely. I especially like the fact that the stones are not 'new' and look nicely aged. Very cool

Re: And finally ...
Well, when we first bought the house, there was an arch there already but it was crumbling and a bit dangerous so I asked a local stonemason (friend and ex-neighbour) if he could perhaps rebuild it for us and how much would it cost.
He told us that they had a Stonemason Apprentice who was looking for a wee project and suggested we have a word with him about the keystone (the one with the bun on it). The Apprentice suggested that he could carve a rabbit on to it but he'd need a template to work from. I searched and couldn't find one that I really wanted. The Apprentice found that design on a postcard when he was on holiday and decided to go ahead with it without me seeing it. He carved the first one and brought it to show us, I was delighted with it but o/h asked if he could do the same on the other side of the stone cos he couldn't decide whether to have the bun facing the yard or the garden, so the stone was taken away again . So, he got the bottle of whisky which he cracked open when the carving was completed. Then it was the other Stonemason's turn to cement it in place and in return, my o/h supplied the disco for two of his family parties (o/h is a DJ). The other stones were the original ones from the previous arch, hence the aged look. Now I just have to paint the new bits with live yoghurt to help their aging process
There now, that was a long winded reply!

Well the apprentice did a marvellous job.
As for the painting with yoghurt...if your neighbours are not convinced your mad already, they soon will be .

Oh don't talk to me about neighbours Funnily enough, the Stonemason is also a retain fireman, as is the neighbour and they know each other well so no doubt our 'arch' debacle will be the talk of the local fire station anyway

You'd think firefighters would have more interesting things to talk about....like fires maybe :lol!:
