Nasal discharge Empty Nasal discharge

Post by Rice Thu Nov 20, 2008 6:22 pm

So I was feeding Alfred this morning and I noticed he had some nasal discharge. It looked like he had snot coming out of a runny nose or something. I wiped it away and didn't notice anything else amiss. He seems fine - eating, pooping, hopping about as normal and all that.

I'm going to call the vet today and see if I can get him in tomorrow before work, but does anybody know what could be wrong? What I should ask the vet? Thanks!

It was a little bit of both. I didn't notice it at first because it was clear, but I touched his face and it was wet. Then when I wiped it off it was like more came out and that was white.

Looks like he may have a little upper respiratory infection and you've caught it early. See what the vet says, he'll probably listen to his lungs and give you a course of antibios for him. Let us know how he gets on and give him a wee nose rub from me :luv:

As Lynda said, it sounds like a case of 'snuffles'....probably caused by Pasteurella.

It will help his gut flora & boost his immune system for him to be on probiotics during the antibiotic course, I run it alongside and for 2 weeks afterwards.

A minimum of 6 weeks is usually now recommended to see off a RTI, it can be quite persistent if you don't hit it hard & fast.
