Peanut Butter's sore feeties!
they just wont get better.
when he was 'indoors' i.e in the outhouse but with fleece, vetbed etc they DID begin to get better, quite alot in fact. but since the foursome were seperated due to pebbles being left out, all four have gone back into their 2 pairs and back into their hutches.
since this, one of peanuts feet have stayed pretty much the same. however the other foot, has white stuff under the skin, and you can clearly see it has gone skeptic underneath. the bare skin is now as big as a 20p peice n cracked and sore.
He is going to the vets monday but the thing is, all they do is give us more cream and its not working.
what can i do? i feel so bad, but i dont know what else to do? the vet always says he cant be in pain because when she touches it he doesnt flinch, but i dont think thats a reliable way to judge, especially as he is very easy to handle n stays very calm?
any help guys? Im very worried for him and i feel like im hitting a blank wall

Re: Peanut Butter's sore feeties!
so have you tried massaging in aloe vera gel or sudocrem as well? i used to do that with barney and hold him for 10 minutes so it could all soak in (he has carpet now so is better). could you line the hutch with some cushion flooring or something soft? what is it that is making his foot bad - the hutch or run?

Aww what a shame. No advice to offer, but vibes that he wee feeties are better soon. I know that sudocream was great for my son's sore bottie when he was a baby. He had really sensitive skin and it was the only cream that made any difference to his frequent nappy rash.

Re: Peanut Butter's sore feeties!
he has sudocream mixed with aloe vera to put on his feet every morning.
his hutch is filled deep with soft hay and straw, and he has some fleecy material inside an old carrier in his hutch too which he can go in whichis soft too.

Re: Peanut Butter's sore feeties!
today i noticed all the puss had 'filled up' the hole, so as soon as my mum got in we whisked him up to Spring Lodge in Tiptree.
She looked at his hock and said he had an abcess underneath the skin and she is concerned that the infection has gone into the bone.
Tomorrow he is going to have a xray and she is going to see what needs to be done, it will either be:
1. the abcess is removed, dressed and he is given a long course of antibiotics
2. if the infection is in the bone, she said it is very slight that his leg can be saved as she said often the antibiotics will not fight it off and it just gets worse, so she said at worst he may need to have his leg amputated.
I said he was insured, however his policy started on the 4th july, and he had baytril for his sore hock in june however, his hock cleared up fine and then after that we have had no problems until now.
i am assuming despite this he still wont be covered?
this is bad financially, it is going to be £170 just for xrays and anasthetic, and then near on £200 for first course of antibioitics, and if his leg needs amputating it could be so so much higher.
please think of my baby tomorrow.

Re: Peanut Butter's sore feeties!
I think from what I remember of reading my policy with PetPlan, that if they have a medical ailment that has completely cleared up and then flares up later, you are covered. What you are not covered for is having something that never really goes away, but returns at a later date. I think you would be covered.

Re: Peanut Butter's sore feeties!
spoke to them and they said it was one month before my policy, however...they said peanut would have been suffering up until now and seeing as he has had multiple vet trips since then they would have noiced so it DID heal up.
Phoned pet plan and she said when u take out a policy if they had something prior to the policy u r exluded from claiming for a certaina mmount of months, but its been seven so fingers crossed he is covered.
I hope he is okay tomorrow, have made him a little packed lunch to take!!

Re: Peanut Butter's sore feeties!
Missy having sore hocks is one thing but when it becomes as abcess..depends how clever your vet is at wording the claim!
With Fudge I can't claim for dental stuff but he was treated for a oral liaison or something when his spurs cut into his tongue so the burring etc was paid up for!

Re: Peanut Butter's sore feeties!
well hes home, sporting a pretty pink bandage!
his hock is packed with antibiotics, and he has a donut dressing around it, hopefully it will be okay.
hes very quiet, he let me cuddle him without moving at all, hes currently ina cardboard box filled with fleece and a wheat bag as i dont have a snugglesafe. he and jelly are in the outhouse and we have put a little heater in there.
he came out the carry case dragging his leg behind him jelly looked up, saw him, then carried on eating hay! 'oh youre back'
he hasnt eating anything since we got back and he is all hunched up, but hes had fibreplex and has all his fave foods in there.
hes not very happy

AWwwwwwww pink bandage! Vibes for Peanut who is obviously worn out from his big day bless him. Glad he is home Missy xxxx
Re: Peanut Butter's sore feeties!
Hope you get the insurance sorted out. As someone has said, have a chat with the vet so that they put the best term on the form. They have nothing to lose so I would be surprised if they didn't help. They get paid either way.
