Rabbit routine....
Hello!
I read somewhere once that rabbits like routine. They like to know what to expect - fair enough, so do I!!
So, with this in mind.....
I normally bring the bun in at night for a couple of hours for human interaction as he doesn't have a friend and he is (nearly always) well behaved, sometimes the odd poop tumbles out (or loads if he's eaten already for whatever reason!! ) but that's about it.
However, he has weed (sp?? - looks wrong) on the sofa 3 times and boy can he wee! This has only been if we've brought him in for a bit in the afternoon, say 2 - 3 pm as opposed to 7-8 ish pm. Could it be that he knows that's when he normally comes in so doesn't need a wee but at other times he's just ready to go? Or do you think he's marking his territory, because the only other common denominator is he's done it when he's been when he has been left with just my OH and he pops into the kitchen or similar for 5 seconds. He returns to find a nice wet ***** cushion! I was going to try and litter train him but he won't stay on the floor when he comes in the house, he always jumps on the sofa with us or hides under the coffee table & won't come out so not sure how I'd train him to go near the litter tray.
Was just wondering because I'd like to be able to go and get him in whenever I like without having to wash all the sofa cushions & covers every time. He always looks so excited to see me and I feel bad if I don't then bring him in.
Any ideas on his oddities (or sugestions how to litter train him) would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, K xx

Re: Rabbit routine....
oops, interesting, can't give you any help with his oddities, except to say it could well be a terratorial thing, but I wouldn't know.
How old is he, and is he neutered, I think that can make a difference.
If you do bring him indoors every day then perhaps giving him a tray inside will stop him having weeing on your things. I couldn't tell from your post if you have this or not already, but you could try training him by putting a used tray inside, and show him it/let him smell it. Each time he poops, put it in the tray, show him it, and he should eventually get the message, as they like to poop in the same spot each time.
If he's insistant on pooing somewhere else, then you could move the tray to that spot.
I'm sure someone else will be along to help you with the weeing thing, Good luck

Re: Rabbit routine....
Thanks Jay - he's 5 and yes he is neutered. I give him a litter tray when he comes in the kitchen, he jumped in it and didn't move, and to be fair to him he has pooped in it once, thank goodness cos they were softies
I tried putting it in his run to get him to used to it there or to play in it and have a little dig if he fancied it. He was most put out, threw it round with his teeth, made a right old mess. I took it out again after that!

Re: Rabbit routine....
Yes, the throwing things out with the teeth scenaroio is one I'm used to seeing! He obviously doesn't want one in the run, but You should persevere with one indoor, leave it there all the time, so he knows ewhere to go.
You may gleam some help form here or here, there's a link at the botton of this one about marking terratory as well
