On the Telegraph website, highlighting the poor conditions bunnies are kept in and pleading with people not to buy 'Easter' bunnies
I hope the world is listening.

Re: Wonderful News Article
Well done to the Telegraph.
It would be fantastic if all newspapers would follow suit.

That's really great that they're doing that. The statistics they have there are quite shocking

Re: Wonderful News Article
I have no idea if it's in the actual papers too as we can't get them here... But it's great that it's even online.
I heard a story today - one of the wives here bought her four year old a rabbit, an angora (god knows where they got it over here) for Easter. This kid has a reputation for being bad with animals mainly due to parental reaction to anything he does wrong - my mate found him dangling her cat by the teeth on some string she had put in her mouth - the boy had just grabbed the string and was suspending the cat, yowling, from it
Anyway, he basically killed his pet. He was left alone, unsupervised. This poor rabbit was 'his' pet, to look after (A FOUR YEAR OLD!) and he decided, for whatever reason, to squeeze it. Until it died.
Poor, POOR bunny to have died like that. And do you know what the parents did to the kid? Squeezed him back Seriously.
I just don't know what to say, I am having to avoid them both, I already exploded at the guy who bred his guinea pigs ("for the kids", 12 and 14 who are at boarding school for most of the year ), neutered the dad (after much badgering from me of course) but then reintroduced the dad the day after the op, supervised to 'let him be with his kids' and is suprised when he ends up with another litter. Which he has since sold to a pet shop.
He claims noone told him they stayed fertile after castration. I did. I told him. SO many times. "Watch out" I said, "leave it at last 3 weeks to be safe as you don't want another litter" I said. "Oh no we don't want that". So when I heard about the 2nd litter I snapped at him. Not my place and very embarrassing but I need to avoid this rabbit couple as I will just shout at them in the hormonal state I'm in at the mo. I've already cried for bunny
Anyway, enough ramblings. Just thought you should know some of the stupidity over here.

Re: Wonderful News Article
Shocking Human behaviour continues to surprise me! How awful for the poor bunny and I can't believe anybody would put a 4 year old in charge of a rabbit! My eldest is 7 and I am only now teaching her about responsibility, but teaching her rather than leaving her to get on with it!
I would have found it very difficult to bite my tongue and keep control of my emotions in that situation. You did very well
Such a sad story...

Re: Wonderful News Article
That's a great idea coco Hopefullly raising more bunny awareness will guide people to understand rabbits and help to prevent poor treating of rabbits. Let us know if you hear anything back from the newspaper
Re: Wonderful News Article
Helen how do you keep your cool in a situation like that? Oh man.
Thank god for that news article. Lets just hope and pray we see similar ones appearing in other papers. I just can't bear the thought of this weekend.

Re: Wonderful News Article
Yes well done Janak - good thinking
And I didn't actually speak with the people who had this murderous kid (although he can't really be blamed but he does have a reputation with animals), I was told the story through a good friend of mine.
People infuriate me sometimes!

God, what an awful story Helen. Poor bunny
The Telegraph article is great - I posted it on Facebook and it seems to be doing the rounds. Although probably preaching to the converted mostly!
