I am gutted about this
Matthew cleaned the hutches/enclosure for me today as I was in bed with a migraine (am going back to bed as soon as Alex is asleep he is having a late night I'm afraid he should have been asleep 30 mins ago but is just in bath now) anyway, trust me, I clean my hutches and enclosure all the time. But Matthew lifted the carpet in one of my hutches and he found some very very tiny white worms. I am absolutely feeling so terrible about it - I lifted the carpet a week ago and cleaned underneath and didnt see anything like it. I feel so bad. Anyway he threw the carpet away, cut a new lot as we have a roll in the shed, and put that down after cleaning the bottom, but I feel like I have really let my buns down. I am going to not use carpet anymore, just newspaper and straw/hay because they dont use the hutches for anything but litter trays. I was hoping carpeting them and putting litter trays in there etc would train them not to just use the whole hutch and encourage them to spend time in the hutches for rest as well as poos/wees but I think I am going to give up on that.
Their hutches are always open, then they have the huge enclosure, burrow, tunnels, tent, dog bed and under the hutches & other sheltered bits so I guess they just dont want the hutches for anything but a litter tray.
I feel really bad. Is there anything I need to do now? I am sure there is. I do promise I clean them constantly but somehow this has happened.
As an aside they are all in great health and eating perfectly/pooing perfectly so I havent any worried that the worms have got in there and made them ill, and they were only under the carpet, not on top, but still I feel bad.

Re: I am gutted about this
Perhaps its just the dampness that the worms were attracted to.
Dont feel bad, I can tell you look after them very well otherwise you wouldnt be as worried as you are right now.
Things like this happen to the best of us so dont worry about it hun x

Re: I am gutted about this
thanks very much. I knew I needed to talk to you guys about it because otherwise I think I would feel even worse as if I was hiding it. And also because I just dont know how it happened. Their carpet was replaced about 4-6 weeks ago, and as I said I lifted it and cleaned under it last week. But nevertheless there were these little white worms. I didnt see them but M said they were just a couple of mm.

Don't beat yourself up, hun. I find the odd earwig in G&N's hutch and I have heard of those who find slugs which would completely freak me out.
I have carpet in our hutch/sheds but Chris has also lined the floors with lino.

Re: I am gutted about this
what kind of worm do you think they are? I was just so scared they were going to go in the rabbits bottoms... I mean I dont even know if that is possible with this type of worm but I just felt bad. Thanks for being so nice about it.

I haven't had slugs, but we do get forkies (earwigs to your Southerners). It has been very warm recently and everything has sprung into life.

oh good so it isnt as uncommon as I thought. I thought it was really terribly unheard of in well kept bunny homes. I feel better knowing it isnt so rare and also with people I know do well too.

Re: I am gutted about this
I freaked last year when I found tiny white worms in one of my cages.
I was told it can come with the hay or straw. I sprayed with Dettol everywhere, after cleaning the cages.
