Post by AlexC Tue May 12, 2009 6:25 pm

hi, first of my names alex, im 15 (16 tomorrow Smile) boy, from edinburgh

i have been staying at my grans over the last couple of days as i have had my exams and ive camehome and went straight out to see teh rabbit, my mum has been feeding and watering her everyday, i picked her up and shes breathing really weird, sounds almots like a blocked nose, she breaths in kinda ok and when she breaths out shes opening her mouth and sounds almost bubbly, its very strange and ive never heard any of my previous rabbits having this, she is about 5ish i cant quite rememeber, she is not a dwarf rabbit, but she is very very small, and has quite large ears, i was gona run down to the vets but its closed now, is there anything i can do?

please help im really worried. i dont want to lose her Crying or Very sad

thanks
Alex

Hi Alex,

You really need to get her to a vets asap as a rabbit that breathes through it's mouth is in real distress and it is very serious (rabbits naturally always breath through their noses). She may have a lower respiratory condition such as pneumonia, the bubbling sound you describe can be linked to fluid build up in the lungs.

Good Luck

Hi Alex, I really think you need to get your rabbit to a vet straight away, I think she will need medication, can you get her to an emergency vet?

Vets have a legal obligation to provide an out of hours emergency service, so if you call them they can tell you what their practice arrangements for this are. Smile

Hi Alex, thanks for getting back, is that Pneumonia? Bunnies have recovered from this before, there are drugs that can help, but it can depend on how advanced the pneumonia is. I hope she pulls through, and you get good news from the vet. Healing vibes for your girl.

I'm really sorry Alex Sad

I'm so sorry she didn't make it Alex Sad but well done for taking her to the vets and giving her that chance.

I hope one day soon you can give a loving home to another needy bunny, and if you do you will come and tell us all about it. Smile
