Insurance whinge!
I had Daisy insured with Petprotect as they were the only company I could find who would insure an older bun at the time. Some of you might remember my posts on another forum about her dental problems and abscesses. She went to a local vet to have an infected tooth removed then when an abscess developed in the same place immediately after her op we ended up taking her to a rabbit specialist instead as the local vet couldn't help her.
The first vet charged £175 and the specialist treatment cost £377. Petprotect have agreed to settle my claim however they have taken excess off both of the above amounts - at £55 a time! The treatment was for a related issue so I can't understand their logic. Should I complain?
Another minor gripe is that her policy year runs from 14th June but just because one part of her treatment (£35) was on 18th they won't pay it! I understand it's in the small print blah blah, and I might get it back if she needs further treatment this policy year but it just seems a bit mean to me!

Re: Insurance whinge!
I would complain. I don't think they should be taking excess twice when it is for the same issue. Hmmm... is there any other insurer that you could change to? What a scam.
Re: Insurance whinge!
pet plan say that if you have to go back several times fo one condition you only pay the excessonce, might be worth contacting them instead x

Re: Insurance whinge!
Petplan wouldn't insure Daisy when I loked into it before because she was too old. Also, now she is already being treated for abscess and dental problems I doubt they will insure her anyway as they will see it as a pre-existing condition.MissySJ wrote:pet plan say that if you have to go back several times fo one condition you only pay the excessonce, might be worth contacting them instead x
What's more annoying is that I've just found a note I made of a conversation I had with customer services just before the claims were submitted as I was worried about her being treated by two vets and wondered if it would confuse matters but I was assured that I would NOT be charged two excesses and if the claim is related (i.e in the same area) then it would be treated as one claim.
I've already drafted a complaint letter so I'll let you know how I get on.

I would contact them about being charged the excess for the two different vets but doubt you will get anywhere about it being in the "different year" as that seems to be standard practice for insurance companys.

I'd definitely complain but as others have said because its seen as in two different policy years then they might not do anything about it. Its worth a go though

Re: Insurance whinge!
I know yoyu wouldn't be able to change providers now because they wont pay out for a pre-eisting condition, infacy you were lucky to find a policy that covered dental related problems fullstop.
I would question why they have charged you the excess twice though, Im sure that would contravene the terms of the policy.

Re: Insurance whinge!
Just thought I'd let you know my whinge is over! I complained about the two excess fees and they paid it straight into my account - no quibble! Apparently it was because the second vet hadn't ticked the 'continuing treatment' box and this confused them! Yay for Petprotect!!
