Vivi seems abit off
Vivi has been a little off lately, but I couldn't put it down to anything, his teeth and ears seem fine, his fur is in good condition, his eyes are bright and shiny.
He has been off his pellet slightly but has been eating his hay and veg just fine.
However, last night I noticed his droppings where smaller than usual..
Im wondering if I should wait for this to clear up or take him to the vets? The OH always thinks Im in crazy bunny lady mode when I want to take him to the vets for the tiniest thing! But Im not so sure this is a tiny thing anymore..

Re: Vivi seems abit off
Hi
I dont want to be a voice of doom, but do you think his teeth could be playing up? This is exactly how daisy was when his teeth started to play up. His Nuggies were the first thing he stopped eating and then his poos became very small. I had no idea anything was wrong (because he is really fussy with his food anyway) so I left it longer and soooo wished I hadnt.
It may be nothing so please please please dont let me worry you, but I didnt not want to say anything just in case.
I think as a bunny mummy you just get a feel if something isnt right and I think its really important to follow your instincts.

Re: Vivi seems abit off
If his droppings are smaller than usual, that can indicate that his digestion is slowing down, and he may be experiencing some pain. It could be his teeth, if he's off his pellets too, as they'll tend to eat less abrasive foods, but it really could be any number of things, so if you're not sure, you ought to get him looked at.
Keep us posted and vibes for your boy.

Re: Vivi seems abit off
Okay, thanks for the advice!
I suppose if he is in pain that would explain why he is 'off', he has been stomping mroe lately, and hisses at me when I pick him up sometimes.
I thought this was just because he'd been split from Lani (She was too young to be spayed & hit the 'teenage' phase so I split them till she was old enough to be spayed) So mostly Ive just been keeping an eye on him for any other changes.
Ill phone the vets immediately, though if I don't get an appointment today he probably wont get seen 'till after the weekend. If he gets worse, though, Ill get an emergency one.
Thanks again, Ill keep you posted on how he's doing!

Re: Vivi seems abit off
Buns hide pain very well, and usually only let us know through small changes in behaviour (and poos!). The behaviour changes you're describing, and with the smaller poos, is pretty much how Bertie was for a while. Turned out he had arthritis in his spine, and was in a lot of pain, which stopped him eating, which in turn brought his digestion to a standstill. Pain is a big contributory factor to GI stasis.
I hope he gets an appointment soon, and lots of healing vibes

Okay, he has an appointment on Monday, so Ill keep a close eye on any signs of change & get him an emergency appointment if he gets any worse..
Until then Ill have to make sure he gets lots of extra love!

Re: Vivi seems abit off
Okay he saw the vet today and she thinks its his teeth. Hes got a dental booked next Monday as thats the earliest time they had, sadly.. And then she said if that doesn't solve it at least it gets ruled out. She also said his gut seems fine so.. Fingers crossed this dental gets him back to normal!
I asked if it was likely to be a reoccuring problem, and the vet said if its a problem they get while young (<1yr) usually it means its going to be reoccuring, but she said if he's 2 it might just be a one-off, and Ive just got to keep an eye on what he's eating after this..
So, hopefully his teeth get fixed and he gets all better.. I hope. X

Re: Vivi seems abit off
When I checked him this morning, he hadn't eaten all his veg like usual.. Though Im wondering if thats because its a different veggie to normal.. I mean, a veg he's had before.. But not a 'regular' one..
He is worrying me so much - I hope he's okay 'till Monday..

Re: Vivi seems abit off
Can you ask them to do the dental any earlier?
You dont want him to stop eating altogether.
Im now having similar problem with Daisy - although i dont know if hes jsut being a monkey.

Re: Vivi seems abit off
Monday was the earliest they had.
I gave him his more regular veggies and he ate those, so Im thinking he was just being fussy.
Hes still eating hay fine, I suppose thats the most important thing for him to still be eating.. :-)
Bunnies eh, love them so much but don't they just worry you! Sometimes I wonder if they plot it to get lots of extra love...

Re: Vivi seems abit off
He eate plenty lettuce today but left the thicker stalky bits in the centre, I guess those are starting to get a little hard for him maybe..
So I guess Ill have to give him all the extra leafy softer bits.
But he seems to be doing okay for the time being.

Re: Vivi seems abit off
Felix had a baby incisor that had never come out and was growing down and hurting him and he started not eating the chewier veg so maybe he is just finding it difficult. You could maybe cut it up into smaller bits for him
