I feel like a bad mum :(
My little cookie has been a bit off for a wee while now, She hasnt been the cleanest at her bum. She doesnt have the runs, softer than the norm but nothing to worry about that way but its more like a urine thing. This week shes been really smelly and the hair is formed into a clump. I gave her a bath today, this is why I feel bad as she was most disgruntled. I gentle managed to remove the dirty hair and all tangles so its completely cleaned and groomed and She is swollen at her "bits" not massive but its easy to tell and she is slightly raw but what I did notice is how "gritty" it was when I washed it all. There is a few hairs in her genitals like little spikes but no discharge yesterday or today which is good no discoloration or any idicator of infection on the outside. She is booked in at the vets tomorrow. For now its all cleaned up and checked. Any ideas? In my opinion its more likely a urinary infection or something stuck in there irritating her and hopefully antibiotics and keeping it clean will sort it but anyone had anything like this? She is fine in her self, active, eating drinking (no less or more than the norm).
There is nothing more amusing than a wet rabbit trying to walk, thump, box and dry themselves at the same time!

Try not to feel bad. You're doing the best thing for her by getting her checked by the vet. I hope it goes ok tomorrow xx
Re: I feel like a bad mum :(
I dont think it will be anything major otherwise She wouldnt be so happy in herself. Will let you all know how she gets on. Shes not gonna let me get near her again after being plonked in the bath!
Re: I feel like a bad mum :(
Don't feel bad, what is important is what you do when you discover something is wrong. From what I can see you are doing everthing you can.
YOu mentioned that it was gritty. Could it be calcium sludge. No doubt Sooz will be along soon and will be able to be more specific.

its not so much that theres something wrong its that ill be the bad guy shoving her in the bath which she didnt like although she was ok when i let her paddle about and just washed her without holding her. Ill probs have to give her antibiotics aswell.

If she isn't feeling great, it won't matter what you do to her she'll feel rubbish. ONce she starts feeling better she'll perk up.

Re: I feel like a bad mum :(
Back from the vets. She has a slightly thickened bladder and was a bit seepy again today. It may be a bladder infection or a crystalising problem. She is a bit sore and bloated round the belly but was very good for the vet, didnt like being weighed. She has antibiotics for 10 days twice a day and it should clear up but could be a reocurring issue with her. If it is she will get antibiotics every time. I know she is bonded to me as im the only one dealing with her but she melted me today, after she was weighed the vet put her back onto the table where me and my mum were standing, she walked back to me nd i leaned down to give her a kiss and she launched herself into my arms, put her head under my chin and stayed like that the rest of the consultation! I know she liked me but that made my day!
Incase theres any slight blockage I was wondering if barley water can be drank by them. Its often recommended for bladder issues to wash everything through and might be helpfull?

She will be feeling a lot better once the ABX gets into her system. I know what you mean about them cuddling up to you at the vet. Gloria doesn't like being touched very much, but when I take her to the vet, she just melds herself to me. It must be such a stressful experience that I am the lesser of two evils. Once we're back home, she is off and back to her normal scardy cat ways As long as she isn't ill, I quite enjoy getting to cuddle her twice a year.

haha well she didnt like getting another dose tonight but did get a cuddle and a brocolli treat all to herself afterwards. I have put bowls of water down as well as bottles so she has plenty water to wash out her system.
