Introducing a cat to my buns? Empty Introducing a cat to my buns?

Ok, so I went ahead and got a cat. He's eight years old, really friendly and docile. He's not a hunter and he's spent the last four years with a child in the house. So I don't see him causing too much trouble when I introduce him in with the buns. But here's my question. How do I introduce him without scaring the rabbits half to death?

My sister has suggested confining the buns to their hutch and then letting Mitzy come up close to their mesh so they can all see each other but not get to each other. The perhaps after a while moving to the point where the buns are out in their half of the living room with the run up and letting mitzy in the other half (I would like to do this first, but the run has no lid and that's not a good idea).

I want to make sure my buns don't get scared and know that they're safe.

sounds like a good plan to me. my rabbits chase my cats and the cats find them annoying eg they will be licking their leg or something and then they have a big fat twitchy nose come up and sniff them so they stalk off looking irritated.

Olly was introduced to my lot in that same way - he was let out in the garden and they came to him on their turf. mind you he was such a wimp that when charlie lolloped up to say hello Olly pooed himself and shot off across the garden Laughing

can we please see photos of said kitty?! Very Happy

*hugs you both very tightly* You know I asked this question on the cat forums I've been joining (Mitzy is my first cat and I wanted a forum where I could go to for advise on things I don't know) and pretty much everyone has attacked me for it! If my cat's not going to eat my buns, my buns are going to kill the cat and apparently I'm harmless and don't care about any of them *looks utterly distressed*

Yeah, I have a rabbit run erected down the middle of the living room for when I'm not in as my bunny proofing is not destiny proof she can still get wires somehow when I'm not there. So I put the run up so now it is bunny proof when I'm not there but when I'm in they can still go everywhere. So if the buns decide to bully mitzy there's always a fence I can put up to stop them and protect him.

If they insist on going for him after a while though I'll put a baby gate in the living room doorway so he can come in and leave without being chased around the house. I'm going to only allow him in the living room under supervision though. *nods* For all three of their safety's.

Not that I envision anyone actually attacking anyone. I just want to cover everything.

Kitty pictures?OK ^_^

He's beautiful Introducing a cat to my buns? InLove I'm so glad you found him.

I think you're doing the right thing introducing them slowly. You'll probably find after a while that the buns rule the roost (no change there then Rolling Eyes) - the bunnies I've had have always ended up being "top cat" over the cats I've had Introducing a cat to my buns? WhiteCat

Have fun with him Very Happy
