Urine Scald!
Argh typical bunnies get ill at once
Blitzen was ill a while ago and is still having his meds for it (3 syringes of panacur) Whilst he was ill he wasn't moving about when he went to the toilet. Anyway the vet said he hadn't been scalded and will clean himself up now he's better. I wiped him everyday to try and clean him up but didn't want to stress him with a bath.
Anyway after today's events with Holly I thought I'd check the other bunnies Magic was fine but Blitzen has what I think is urine scalds, not serious or big like Asbeau's were but they look sore. He hasn't weed on himself recently as his legs have cleared up alot but where they are still dirty is dry (I was going to give him a bum bath in a couple of days seems he's feeling better) Anyway, i've applied Sudocrem to him (and Holly) and then later on I will put some Vasaline on to make a barrier over the sores (they don't look open but I'd rather be safe than sorry)
Obviously I will get him to a vet ASAP but I need to wait until my mum comes home tonight before I can discuss the vets.

Re: Urine Scald!
oh dear beth! it's all hell breaking loose at yours
sounds like you've done everything right though. poor old Blitzen - make sure you clean his hutch out regularly and ensure it's dry so he's not sitting around in the wet bless him

Re: Urine Scald!
I might block the run off again, I hate to do it but it get's quite wet out there (desperatley in need of a new sheet of perspex on top )
He is getting good at using the litter tray, but I might confine him to a cage as he wees on the wood which obviously takes ages to dry out

Re: Urine Scald!
I would also be vigilant re flystrike Beth.
Perhaps the Vet can shave the soiled fur from Blitzen as this will be better than washing him and thus making him even more wet.
As bb says daily cleaning of his hutch and run is essential as urine scald can become very nasty and it is everso sore for the poor Bun

Thanks Jane
Do you think I should bathe him today? (the weathers warm and sunny here)
I have some rearguard (sp? ) aswell shall I put some of that on him?

Re: Urine Scald!
rearguard away - always recommended especially with soggy bun bums
if you think he can handle a hairdryer then I'd wash him, if not maybe just spot cleaning (i.e. don't dunk the whole bum int he water, just sponge off soiled areas) might do the trick...?

Re: Urine Scald!
i used johnson's baby. no idea if it's good or not but the "no tears formula" meant that i wasn;'t worrying about them crying on me!
I'm sure GP will be fine
