New bun UD - pic
I have an addition to my zoo
There was a huge rescue operation over the weekend in New Milton of 102 guinea-pigs (many who are pregnant) and 68 buns. I went and collected one of the buns. I've called him Furby - he is absolutely gorgeous - but the most terrified bunny I have ever met.
He was kept in a very small and filthy hutch and I don't think he has ever seen a run or grass
At the moment he is in quarantine so is in my lounge in a carrier in a run. He's booked in to see my vet on Friday to get checked over and hopefully have his myxi jab. He will have a neuter in due course (he is a big boy!)
I've bought a hutch/run combination from Lara on another forum and am hiring a transit van this afternoon to go and pick it up and Furby will live there until he is confident enough to be bonded. He may be Peggy's husbun when Sue goes to the Bridge, but I am hoping that won't be for a long time yet so Furby can be bonded with my other group of three.
Sue is coming to the vet on Friday too to get weighed and checked over. I think her quality of life is still good - but recognise I am not exactly objective. She is having a low calcium, high moisture diet with lots of grass, dandelion leaves and dried cranberries. I'm putting her on the grass as much as I can so she can enjoy the rest of her time but she does seem perfectly happy. I am trying to savour my time with her and not let the sadness of her illness spoil this but it is very hard. I just want to make her all better and I can't
Hopefully, Auntie Katie will come and visit soon as Gorgeous George and Gemma are missing her? and maybe take some photos of Furby.

You are a saint! Furby is a very lucky bunny, he is gonna know such a different life now
It's lovely news after all the sadness we've had recently. I hope Katie gets some piccies for us, can't wait to see the little fella

Vibes for Furby.
I hope he soon comes out of his shell and realises what a lucky bunny boy he is.

Oh my goodness!! did they manage to save the other 67? Where are they now?
How are you fixed sunday pm?
I spent all weekend trying to persuade matt I we needed to rescue a pair of bunsters but he really really wont have any of it.
I wonder if they are local to me so I can go and help out and things?

Don't you mean help yourself, KatieB (has vision of Katie with big pockets smuggling out little bunnies)
Your new bun sounds lovely. Yes, we definitely need some photos of Furby.
What is happening with the other buns?

Awww - Furby is gorgeous
I read about this on another forum - really dreadful conditions the buns were in, but luckily they have all been rescued now.
Welcome to Happy Hoppers Furby!

AWWWWWWW!!!!
He's an Isobella, just like Lexie was. I adore that colouring and I'd love to have another one some day.

He is a very beautiful boy. How is he doing? Has he started to develop a bit of confidence and begun to explore? Do you have to get him neutered?

Re: New bun UD - pic
Thanks so much for putting the photo up for me Jay. It was taken by Lara from another forum - she helped lots with the big rescue operation on Monday and I really enjoyed meeting her.
Furby is still incredibly nervous and eating far less than I would like. I've bought some Wagg for him as that is what he is used to but he won't eat much of that. He eats carrot like an apple - leaving the core inside! He won't eat the tops. He ignores greens and has nibbled a tiny piece of apple. He likes fenucreek crunchies but not carrot treats. He will eat dandelion leaves but I have exhausted my garden supply and worry that others have been sprayed. He doesn't touch grass. I haven't seen him eating hay but the amount in his box seems to have gone down so I think he is eating some.
He is using his hay box as a litter tray for droppings but is weeing all over his run. As he is producing droppings he must be eating something so I am not desperately concerned. At the moment if he will eat it I will give it to him. I just want to try and get him to start some serious nomming.
I am leaving him alone a lot. He is in a run in my lounge with a carrier to hide in. I've also bought him a lovely soft cat bed - which he has totally ignored. I do go in and gently stroke him and talk to him but as soon as he can he hides in his carrier. I am having to pick him up to do bun checks (although there are no flies in the lounge) and he hates it.
It's horrible seeing a bun this terrified - he looks at me with scared eyes and I feel a monster. He has the vet on Friday morning which will freak him out still further but I need to get him checked over and hopefully his myxi done. He will then move outside into a big hutch and run combination I bought from Lara.
He does need neutering (he is a Very Big Boy ) but I am not going to rush to get this done. My vet is on holiday for three weeks the week after next and I want him to do it, not a locum. I won't be bonding Furby for some time and don't want him to have an anaesthetic when he is so traumatised. I want to start getting him to eat some healthy food to get him stronger. Lara thought his back leg muscles may be wasted as he never got out of his 3' hutch. I can't tell as he doesn't move when I am watching but hopefully the vet will be able to check and to advise me on the best course of action to start rehabilitating Furby.
I've checked his ears and he doesn't have any mites
He is adorable and it was love at first sight for me. I just wish he felt the same about me. The story of my life where men are concerned
We would all love to see you Sunday afternoon Katie. The house is a complete tip but I know you won't judge me. My hutches and bunny areas are cleaner than my parts of the house!!! I just don't get time with my three jobs and looking after my fur family - and sleeping!

No, I am back to work at all three jobs full-time again from Monday. I've had two weeks off sick and then four weeks half time and then a week's leave. I am working Monday eve.
Please send my respects to Bertie too. He was an amazing bunster.

I am working until 11.30 am. With the three jobs I work really long hours - it's all these furry mouths I have to feed!
I'm around next Sat afternoon and all day Sun.
