Toileting
There's a bunny where I work that has problems hopping up into a litter box. What suggestions would you have situating some kind of toileting place for her?

Newspaper with some wood based cat litter or rabbit litter on top?

Re: Toileting
You could try cutting down the side of the box facing her, so she doesn't have to hop over an edge. If you do this, make sure the box is well filled with newspaper to absorb any wee (my doe tends to be a prodigious piddler) and see how that goes.

Re: Toileting
Hi,
Could it be possible to set up a ramp on the edges of the litter box so that the bunny doesn't have to hop up over the edge?
Most people just use small cat litter boxes I believe. Mine are large cat litter boxes with high sides as one of my bunnies liked to lift his bottom over the edge of the litter tray while he peed.

Re: Toileting
The person who runs the rescue where I work wanted me to clarify why she's having problems. If I have this right, the ears are completely shot and so her equilibrium is off and she drags her feet. She generally does not hop at all. So I'm not sure whether or not a ramp would work. I'll talk to the rescue about the possibility of doing this though.

Re: Toileting
If it's high sided, I would go for a corner tray or a low sided cat tray. Corner trays are pretty neat, and take up less room, & are easily accessible too.
Re: Toileting
I'd second the idea about cutting one side out of a high sided litter tray so she can pull herself in and out of it. A wood based pellet would be the best substrate to use.
She will need regular bum checks to make sure she isn't defecating on herself if her balance is out as this can lead to urine scold and fly strike.

Thanks guys. I know for a fact she checks her butt regularly, I've seen her do it.
I'll be at work tomorrow and will discuss this with her. Feel free to leave any further comments, and thanks so much for your help!
